Time: 20–25 minutes
Activity type: Creating news stories
Preparation: Click here to download the Talking point activity.
Make one copy of Talking point 11 for every six students. Cut into cards.

  1. Have students form pairs. Give each pair one news story card.
  2. Give pairs about five minutes to create and write a brief news story based on the headline and the picture. In their stories, encourage them to answer the questions: Who (did it happen to)? What (happened)? When (did it happen)? Where (did it happen)? Why (did it happen)?
  3. Have students form groups of six. Each group should consist of one pair representing each news story.
  4. Have pairs take turns sharing their stories. The other students in the group can ask questions to get more details about the stories.
  5. Ask for volunteers to share their stories.
