Time: 15–20 minutes
Activity type: Vocabulary memory game
Preparation: Click here to download the Talking point activity.
Make one copy of Talking point 5 for every two students. Cut into cards.

  1. Have students form pairs. Give each pair one set of concentration cards placed facedown.
  2. Have students arrange the cards in a 4 × 4 grid.
  3. Students take turns turning over two cards at a time. The aim is to find the matching vocabulary word and definition. If the cards do not match, the student must put them back in the same places. If they match, the student keeps the cards and gets another turn.
  4. The student with the most cards in the end wins.
  5. To wrap up, have students say what was challenging about the game and share any strategies they used to help them remember the positions of the cards.
