Complete CAE Recording scripts (Student version)

A student's version of the recording scripts for each unit can be found below (PDF files). These recording scripts are not annotated with the answers and are therefore ideal for post-listening classroom activities. For example:

  • Before students are given the correct answers to a listening exercise they have completed, give each student a copy of the student's version of the recording script. Ask the students to read through the script and to underline the parts of the script which best matches the answers they have given. Give each student the opportunity to revise any answers they think are wrong. Ask students to work in pairs to explain the answers they have given, especially for the answers to any questions they revised after reading the script. Check the answers with the whole class.
  • After a listening has been completed, give each student a copy of the student's version of the recording script. Ask students to underline features of spoken language. For example, ask students to look for: formal or informal vocabulary (see Complete CAE Student's Book, Unit 3, page 33); ways of avoiding repetition (see Complete CAE Student's Book, Unit 6, page 60); use of imprecise language, e.g., sort of, fairly, greenish etc. (see Complete CAE Student's Book, Unit 8, page 84); and using emphasis (see Complete CAE Student's Book, Unit 14, page 144).
