The effects on carabids of natural, fescue, and rye sod types and of tillage were investigated in a pest management apple orchard. Carabids were sampled before and after the treatments by pitfall trapping and by two types of soil sampling. There were no significant effects of sod type on pitfall trap catches; however the abundance of all common species in soil samples was significantly affected by sod types. Usually in soil samples carabids were most abundant in natural sod and least abundant in tilled plots; numbers were intermediate in fescue and rye. Sod type did not affect structure or diversity of the carabid fauna.


Les effets de parcelles naturelles, de fétique et de seigle, et du travail du sol sur l'abondance de carabides ont été étudiés dans un verger de pommes où l'on pratique la lutte antiparasitaire dirigée. Les carabides ont été échantillonnés avant et après les traitements par piégeage à fosse et deux types d'échantillonnage du sol. On n'observe aucun effet significatif des types de parcelle sur les captures au piège, mais ceux-ci influent significativement sur l'abondance de toutes les espèces communes rencontrées dans les échantillons de sols. En règle générale, les carabides des échantillons sont plus abondants dans les parcelles naturelles et plus rares dans les parcelles travaillées; leur nombre est intermédiaire dans les parcelles de fétique et de seigle. Le type de parcelle n'influe pas sur la structure ni la diversité de la population de carabides.
