A REVIEW OF THE OENEIS POLIXENES (FABRICIUS) (LEPIDOPTERA: SATYRINAE) COMPLEX IN NORTH AMERICA

Abstract

North American species of the Oeneis polixenes (Fabricius, 1775) complex are reviewed. Two new subspecies, Oeneis polixenes luteus and Oeneis polixenes woodi, as well as one new species, Oeneis philipi, are described from northwestern North America. Oeneis polixenes peartiae (Edwards, 1897) is synonymized with Oeneis polixenes subhyalina (Curtis, 1835).

Résumé

On a révisé les espèces Nord-américaines du complexe Oeneis polixenes (Fabricius, 1775). On décrit deux nouvelles sous-espèces, Oeneis polixenes luteus et Oeneis polixenes woodi, de même qu’une nouvelle espèce, Oeneis philipi, du nord ouest de l’amérique du Nord. Oeneis polixenes peartiae (Edwards, 1897) est mis en synonymie avec Oeneis polixenes subhyalina (Curtis, 1835).
