Resumen

La variación estacional en los nacimientos de los pacientes con esquizofrenia es un resultado epidemiológico replicado consistentemente. Pocos estudios han investigado este fenómeno entre los pacientes con un diagnóstico de trastorno afectivo. La mayoría de los estudios de la estación de nacimiento han empleado para el análisis estadístico la prueba c2, un método que ha recibido algunas críticas. Utilizando un estadístico del tipo Kolgomorov-Smirnov, se comparó la distribución trimestral del nacimiento de 6.646 pacientes con un diagnóstico de la CIE-9/10 de trastorno afectivo con la población general. Sólo los nacimientos de los individuos con formas unipolares de trastorno afectivo (n = 4.393) diferían significativamente de la población general, con sobretasas y déficit significativos en el segundo y cuarto trimestre, respectivamente. La aplicación de la prueba de desplazamiento no alteró estos resultados.
