Congo: Renewed Violence Threatens Lusaka Accords

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  13 February 2009

Extract

The United States Government strongly condemns this morning's attacks by Ugandan forces against Rwandan Army troops in Kisangani, DRC. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of innocent Congolese civilians. They are a violation of Congo's sovereignty, and are a clear violation of the Lusaka Agreement. They also violate the April 14th cease-fire agreement in Kampala, and the August, 1999 ceasefire agreement between Rwanda and Uganda signed in the aftermath of previous fighting between their forces in Kisangani.
