1 The combined invocation of Father (of Compassion), Son (of Light), pure Wind of Religion (cf. p. 7, n. 2) occurs several times. The identification of the Christian Holy Ghost with the Manichæan spiritus vivens results from the bilingual text M. 172, F. W. K. Müller, Handschriftenreste, ii, pp. 101, 103, where South-Western Iranian (piδor-pusor-) v χš yōžδohr, (Father, Son and) Holy Ghost, is rendered into Sogdian by (poθrē-zåδē-) vizīδ våδ zuβorδv χš, (Father, Son and) Elected Spirit Holy Ghost.
