* In answer to a question from the Director, Mr. Cooper farther states that there is a tradition at Rye that the communion-table and the ancient clock were taken from the Spanish Armada, and presented to the church by Queen Elizabeth. But he shews the story to be utterly erroneous; and makes reference to Mr. Holloway's History of Rye, pp. 311 & 514, in support of his argument.
