Summary
Toxicology is the field of science that examines the effects of chemicals, substances, or situations on people, animals, and the environment. A mass gathering is the congregation of a large group of people, usually involving more than 1000 individuals. Mass gatherings can be for any purpose, but are often related to religious, political, and sporting events. Toxicological concerns in mass gatherings include exposures such as toxic gases, contaminated food and beverage supplies, ethanol use, or recreational drug use. The most common concerns are related to ethanol and cannabis use. Providers at mass gatherings should be prepared for a wide range of toxicological challenges. A general understanding of basic toxidromes can further aid in management. Toxidromes can be considered broadly as stimulants/hallucinogens or central nervous system depressants. Management of the undifferentiated intoxicated patient should primarily emphasize support of airway, breathing, and circulation. Providers must also be aware that polysubstance use is common and individuals may present with effects and unpredictable clinical courses. Awareness of toxicological concerns that will present at a specific mass gathering can mitigate risk. Providers should be ready and to adapt to changes and unexpected outcomes.

Objective:
The aim of this study was to examine emergency preparedness behaviors among women with a recent live birth in Hawaii.
Methods:Using the 2016 Hawaii Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, we estimated weighted prevalence of 8 preparedness behaviors.
Results:Among 1010 respondents (weighted response rate, 56.3%), 79.3% reported at least 1 preparedness behavior, and 11.2% performed all 8 behaviors. The prevalence of women with a recent live birth in Hawaii reporting preparedness behaviors includes: 63.0% (95% CI: 58.7-67.1%) having enough supplies at home for at least 7 days, 41.3% (95% CI: 37.1-45.6%) having an evacuation plan for their child(ren), 38.7% (95% CI: 34.5-43.0%) having methods to keep in touch, 37.8% (95% CI: 33.7-42.1%) having an emergency meeting place, 36.6% (95% CI: 32.6-40.9%) having an evacuation plan to leave home, 34.9% (95% CI: 30.9-39.2%) having emergency supplies to take with them if they have to leave quickly, 31.8% (95% CI: 27.9-36.0%) having copies of important documents, and 31.6% (95% CI: 27.7-35.8%) having practiced what to do during a disaster.
Conclusions:One in 10 women practiced all 8 behaviors, indicating more awareness efforts are needed among this population in Hawaii. The impact of preparedness interventions implemented in Hawaii can be tracked with this question over time.

We present procedures and preliminary results from a study on the effects of instrumental polarization on the fine structure of the stellar point spread function (PSF). These effects are important to understand because the the aberration caused by instrumental polarization on an otherwise diffraction-limited will likely have have severe consequences for extreme high contrast imaging systems such as NASA's planned Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) mission and the proposed NASA Eclipse mission. The report here, describing our efforts to examine these effects, includes two parts: 1) a numerical analysis of the effect of metallic reflection, with some polarization-specific retardation, on a spherical wavefront; 2) an experimental approach for observing this effect, along with some preliminary laboratory results. While the experimental phase of this study requires more fine-tuning to produce meaningful results, the numerical analysis indicates that the inclusion of polarization-specific phase effects (retardation) results in a point spread function (PSF) aberration more severe than the amplitude (reflectivity) effects previously recorded in the literature.

The continual drive for faster interconnects requires the development of new interlayer dielectricmaterials with k values less than 2.1. Porous SiLKTM semiconductor dielectric resin wasdeveloped to achieve these low dielectric constants by introducing nanometer-sized pores intothe dense SiLK resin matrix. A quantitative description of the nano-porous morphology in low-kinterlayer dielectrics can be difficult to achieve for many reasons, including: complexities in theporous structure (size range, geometry, pore/pore interaction), inadequate mathematicaldescriptors, limitations of existing metrology technology, and availability of “tailor-made” experimental samples with a wide range of pore morphologies. On-wafer quantification of poremorphology is even more difficult as data must be obtained from extremely limited samplevolumes (thin films of ∼100-500 nm) residing on thick silicon (Si) wafer substrates.
This paper will focus on the design, development and successful application of on-wafer smallangle x-ray scattering (SAXS) technology to characterize the morphology of porous SiLK resin. It will be demonstrated, by example, that this technology is able to deliver rapid quantificationover the entire pore size range for these systems. Recently developed data acquisition, reductionand analysis tools will be described. Direct evaluation of the strengths and challenges of severalmodels used to generate average pore size and pore size distribution will be reviewed. Finally, additional capabilities offered by this technology (wafer mapping and detection of “killer” pores)will also be discussed.
