Abstract
Rare-earth elements, indispensable to our modern economy, are challenging to purify due to their chemical similarities. Here we introduce a strategy to recycle europium from e-waste, leveraging the redox non-innocence of tetrathiotungstate ligands, achieving its selective separation from energy-saving lamps under ambient conditions with separation factors uover 1000 and recovery efficiency as high as 99%, without pre-treatment of the waste.
