Abstract
The first structural characterization data for unsolvated Lewis superacid Ga(C6F5)3 were obtained by Ultra-Wideline 71Ga Solid-State NMR. Experimentally determined CQ(71Ga) 94-95 MHz for the Ga(C6F5)3 with small ηQ 0.05-0.1 resulted in the width of the signal CT 10.5 MHz (~86000 ppm) on 400 MHz instrument with approximate value of δiso ~ 600 ppm, which satisfies the simulation conditions. Accurate reconstruction of the lineshape allows to clearly observe two slightly different gallium sites in the powder structure Ga(C6F5)3 in a ratio of 1 / 1. While 13C CP{19F} SSNMR showed 2 different types of ipso-atoms of C6F5-groups in a ratio of 2 / 1, that was attributed to a structure in the powder similar to a coordination polymer or dimer with one C6F5-group out of three of the bridging type, with intermolecular C6F5→Ga interactions, involved in the formation of a polymer.
