Abstract

Organic π-conjugated oligomers based on a dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide backbone were synthesized for applications in photonics and optoelectronics. Intramolecular charge transfers between the donor and acceptor moieties were observed along with emission from locally excited (LE) and charge transfer (CT) excited states via effects of solvent polarity. Shifts in emission and absorption spectra were also attributed to the polarity of solvents which caused a bathochromic or hypsochromic shift. Structure validation and other characterization studies were conducted using spectroscopic techniques.
