Healthcare Innovations and Ecosystems: COVID-19 and Beyond

This presentation gives an overview of the healthcare sector innovations and ecosystems in the Indian context. It introduces the concept of health, healthcare and healthcare innovation which is followed by the concept of innovation life cycle and ecosystem. The presentation shares the pre-COVID-19 and current situation in India in the context of healthcare innovations and ecosystems. It provides insights on the role of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in health innovation ecosystems and the contribution of academic research institutes like the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in HTA for healthcare innovation. The presentation concludes by acknowledging that the COVID-19 innovation sprint has now become a marathon, and hence healthcare innovations addressing systemic long term implications like equity and sustainability of healthcare systems become critical in the 'new normal' emerging from this pandemic. COVID-19 although a 'destructive creation' provides an opportunity for 'creative destruction' of voids for a sustainable inclusive future.
