Abstract
This paper explores the deep biochemical and evolutionary connections between the plant and animal kingdoms. While outwardly distinct in morphology and lifestyle, plants and animals share an undeniable molecular foundation—a phenomenon known as the chemical unity of life. By examining the mechanisms of abiogenesis, the shared ancestry dating back to early eukaryotic divergence, the structural homologies of core biomolecules (specifically chlorophyll and hemoglobin), and the reciprocal thermodynamic relationship of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, this paper demonstrates that plants and animals are deeply interconnected. Furthermore, it incorporates the continuous post-mortem cycle of biogeochemical recycling, detailing how the decomposition of deceased animals facilitates new plant growth and how decayed plant matter drives new animal development. Ultimately, while evolutionary history defines them as biological siblings, ecological thermodynamics positions plants as the foundational, nurturing precursor necessary for the survival and sustenance of animal life.
