Climate Change Impacts on Vineyards: A Data-Driven Modelling Approach

09 February 2026, Version 1

Abstract

This report addresses a challenge, proposed at the 181th European Study Group in Industry, that aimed to develop models that could anticipate and adapt to the impacts of climate change on the Vinho Verde region, concerning the production of wine. In this sequel and leveraging historical meteorological data and grapevine growth stages, regression models, able to infer consequences of future weather changes, were constructed. The analysis of acidity levels, alcohol content, and chemical analyses of wine samples, allowed to assess how climatic vari- ations affect wine composition. This study intends to synthesize this information in order to create future scenarios for the wine industry. By identifying trends and understanding the interplay of different factors, it is possible to assist vineyard owners in making informed decisions and adapting to evolving climates.
