Summary

This volume was conceived as a response to the fast-evolving and ever-diversifying relationship between the intellectual property (IP) system and competition policy in the contemporary economy, in an international and domestic policy environment that lays ever-greater emphasis on the generation and management of knowledge and innovation, and on mechanisms to ensure that the public derives the expected social and economic benefits from innovation and the spread of knowledge. The last two decades in particular have seen considerable regulatory activity and policy developments in many national and regional systems, spanning a geographically and economically diverse range of established and emerging jurisdictions. These developments have taken place largely in the absence of structured international coordination mechanisms, and limited formal normative convergence.
