PART I - THEORY
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 05 June 2012
Summary
This part begins by introducing the basic tools used in building the theories at the heart of this book. Our attention is drawn toward two areas in which the political economy approach has provided considerable explanation of governance. Chapter 3 considers the allocation of resources for performing governance tasks. Chapter 4 synthesizes theories of the delegation of authority over those tasks to be legitimately performed. The literature in this area was developed primarily in the context of American political institutions. As a result, our context in this part will be federal policy making in the United States. Although the implications of this literature have a much broader geographic reach, we focus on the United States while briefly discussing comparative implications.
