Résumé

L’article retrace l’émergence à la fin des années 1980 d’une nouvelle école historiographique israélienne critiquant les universitaires de l’école traditionaliste. Il pointe cinq axes principaux de discussion dans le débat entre « nouveaux » et « anciens » historiens à propos du conflit de 1948. En un second temps, sont examinés deux livres récents sur le sujet, l’un par Benny Morris, l’autre de la plume de l’auteur, ainsi que les réponses critiques qui leur furent adressés. Enfin, l’auteur tente d’apprécier l’impact de cette nouvelle histoire sur les politiques, l’opinion publique et l’enseignement de l’histoire dans les écoles israéliennes.

Abstract

This essay deals with the emergence of the new school of revisionist Israeli historiography in the late 1980s and with the critique of the traditionalist school. It identifies five main bones of contention in the debate between the new and the “old” historians about 1948. The second part deals with two more recent books on the conflict, one by Benny Morris, one by the author, and with some critical responses to these books. The third part assesses the impact of the new history on politics, public opinion, and the teaching of history in Israeli schools.
