Les anciens fidèles des Annales se rappellent le nom et la collaboration du Dr W. Maas à Voeuvre commune : notes brésiliennes en 1942, notes suédoises, notes sur la découverte de VEurope centrale slave par les Arabes au Xe siècle, etc. — Le Dr Maas m'écrit, à la date du 3 novembre 1952 : « Je suis professeur de géographie à V Université de Dacca, Pakistan oriental. Je lis beaucoup de livres sur Vhistoire des Indes, des livres anciens et des récents. Quant à ces derniers, fai pensé qu'un rapport serait peut-être le bienvenu pour les Annales et j'ai écrit les notes ci-jointes.... » — Je suis très touché de la fidèle pensée du Dr Maas et c'est avec grand plaisir que je publie cette promenade à travers l'historiographie indienne que guide en quelque sorte la bibliographie. —L.
