It was in June 1931 that the Council honoured me with an invitation to submit a paper on this subject, the intention being that it should be read at the Ordinary Meeting in April 1932.

Two volumes relating to the Japanese Experience Life Tables 1912-27 have already been reviewed in the Journal*. These volumes contained (i) the data and graduated Mortality Tables, and (ii) the monetary tablesbased thereon.
