Extract

A critical evaluation of the characters utilized in support of a report of hybridization between two sympatric European species of Pagurus is presented. These characters are contrasted with characters considered to be diagnostic for the species. Although, on the basis of present evidence, the possibility of hybridization is not wholly excluded, it is shown to be highly improbable.
