A. G. Ellis was the grandson of Sir Henry Ellis, who entered the British Museum in 1883, retired in 1909 and died in 1942, as scholar in the Semitic languages. His catalogue of the Arabic manuscripts in the British Museum is spoken of as “ a monument of sound learning”. He also catalogued the Armenian collections of the University Library Cambridge, 4th October,1926 (unpublished).
