I dedicate my working life:
To diagnose and treat the strife,
Disease of brain inflicts on life.
To stand on shoulders of forebears,
Upon whose stance, we build, advance,
From bench, to bed, to humankind,
The cures, the cares, brain research bears.
To learn, and hold in awe, the brain,
A lifelong quest that’s ne’er in vain;
The neural riddles to be solved:
From memory to consciousness;
Complex, unique, brain makes us, us.
To listen, question, undeterred,
With thought and focus undisturbed,
With reflex hammer, knowledge, skill,
With eyes that seek the subtleties,
Dementia, stroke, neuropathies.
To comprehend, to cure, to care,
Regardless of: faith, age or race,
Each human life with hopes and loves,
Each breath entrusted to my care.
To help, to heal, disease of brain,
With scientific hand humane,
Explore, explain, our human brain.
