Summary

‘What is needed is a practical guide to burn treatment.’ This is a statement often made by residents. Many books have been written, but most are written in the style of a collection of review articles. This book has been compiled with the aim of being pragmatic and answering the question: ‘What should I do?’ If the chapter does not answer this question, then it will point the questioner in the right direction to obtain his own answer. Each chapter can be read on its own and thus there are occasional overlaps and repetitions when the book is read as a whole.

The book is aimed at residents in surgery, anaesthesia and intensive care but will be useful to all, both medical and nursing, who may come across burns and be required to treat them.
