Summary

Self-realization and passion – work as an autotelic value

For the majority of the studied singles, work is a value on its own and that makes it a predominant element of their lifestyle. Work is a passion, a meaning of life, a source of satisfaction and self-realization. In their case we can certainly speak of a unique work ethos. The participants of this study work ten to twelve hours a day, and some even more. They also work in the evenings and during the weekends – they work overtime or from home. Their motivations are different, however. Those who work for international corporations often stress that this is a common style in their company, and if they want to be promoted they need to do their best. On the other hand, individual traders and company owners believe that if they do not make enough effort, their business will not grow and customers will not come by themselves. And there are those for whom work is a passion, and that is why they sacrifice every minute of their life to it and no longer see the difference between work and leisure time.

Working for big companies or private enterprises requires these singles to be fully involved in their responsibilities. They are convinced that only such an attitude could bring them reward and success.
