The purpose of this study was to determine if perospirone, a second generation antipsychotic drug and partial agonist at serotonin-5-HT1A receptors, enhances electrophysiological activity, such as event-related potentials (ERPs), in frontal brain regions, as well as cognitive function in subjects with schizophrenia. P300 current source images were obtained by means of standardized low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography (sLORETA) before and after treatment with perospirone for 6 months. Perospirone significantly increased P300 current source density in the left superior frontal gyrus, and improved positive symptoms and performance on the script tasks, a measure of verbal social cognition. Perospirone also tended to enhance verbal learning memory in patients with schizophrenia. There was a significant correlation between the changes in P300 amplitudes on the left frontal lead and those in social cognition. These results suggest the changes in three-dimensional distribution of cortical activity, as demonstrated by sLORETA, may mediate some of the actions of antipsychotic drugs. the distinct cognition-enhancing profile of perospirone may be related to its actions on 5-HT1A receptors.

The aim of our study to understand whether surgical operation affects the psychological symptom and mental depression of stroke patients.
Ten post stroke patients conducted psychological tests of the Self rating Depression Scale (SDS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) and Japan Stroke Scale-Depression scale(JSS-D).
STAI: State trait: 44.7 ± 10.6 points, (male 44.1 ± 13.4 points, female 46 ± 4.6 points). the group having with operation 47.8 ± 3.8 points▮the group having without operation 41.6 ± 13.9 points. There was 5% statistically-significant difference by the chi-square test.
The SDS and JSSD was not recognized the statistical significance difference between with surgical operation without surgical operation.
It is suggested that female stroke patients who have had surgical operation tend to get nervous and depressed after the surgical operation.

Pd-rich PGM (platinum-group minerals) have been found in sulphide-bearing dunites and harzburgites from the Inazumi-yama ultramafic complex in southwestern Japan. In the dunite, potarite (PdHg0.85–0.88) is the most abundant PGM but other associated PGM include stibiopalladinite (Pd5Sb2) and rare sperrylite (PtAs2) and Pd-rich alloys. A Pd telluride has been found in the harzburgite. The PGM are enclosed usually by pentlandite-heazlewoodite composite grains and, rarely, by altered chrome-spinel. These minerals are characteristic of an ultramafic assemblage but they are accompanied by ubiquitous galena and minor sphalerite not usually associated with these ultramafic assemblages. The ultramafic part of this complex has been thermally metamorphosed (olivine-talc zone) within the contact aureole of an adjacent granite. The PGM, sulphides and altered spinel are all intergrown with antigorite and/or chlorite, indicating a metamorphic overprint on the primary igneous mineralogy. The Pd/Pt ratios of 9 suggest a process of hydrothermal concentration for the Pd and it is proposed that the Pd has been remobilized and reconcentrated by hydrothermal solutions derived from the granitic magma which reacted with the Pd concentrated in the primary magmatic sulphides. Mercury may have been leached from surrounding sediments by the hydrothermal solutions. It is possible that potarite and the other PGM formed at temperatures of up to 650°C and are likely to be found in other thermally metamorphosed ultramafic rocks showing a depleted character (spinel Cr/[Cr+Al]>0.7), common in orogenic belts.

It is difficult to get a real scale image of the solar system through lecture. A scale model is a classical and one of good solutions (e.g. Handa et al.2003, Handa et al.2008). Through this model, people living in or visiting to the city can physically understand the scale of the solar system. This scale gives 1 cm for Earth's diameter and 115 m for 1 AU. However, some gadget is required to make it attractive for public citizens.

Hydrogen passivation effect on the enhancement of photoluminescence (PL) of Er ions in SiO2 films contained Si nanocrystallites (nc-Si) has been investigated. Er-doped SiO2 films were fabricated by laser ablation of Er-deposited Si substrate in oxygen gas atmosphere. The PL intensity of Er ions and nc-Si were increased by hydrogen gas treatments, while ESR signal intensity of residual defects located at the interfaces between nc-Si and SiO2 was decreased. These results indicate that hydrogen passivation of residual defects is useful for the enhancement of the Er PL.
