Summary
Being an extract from the Analysis Book kept by Simon Urlin for Robert, rst Earl of Ailesbury.
By The Earl of Cardigan
The domestic accounts maintained by our ancestors were generally of a simple nature. This was advantageous, to the nobility at least, in that it enabled them easily to comprehend the pages of figures which their stewards periodically placed before them.
Very simple accounts, however, have the defect of not being as informative as one could wish. In the case of Lord Ailesbury’s household, a general account book was kept, in which were listed all items of expenditure as they occurred— the buying of a packet of pins for My Lady being treated on precisely the same basis as the purchase of a flock of sheep for the Home Farm. Such widely differing items were totalled at the foot of every page, and the page totals were themselves totalled at the end of each half-year. The grand total was finally shown as “Disbursements since Lady Day (or Michaelmas)”, and was set against a total of receipts which had been similarly compiled.
It was this general account book which Lord Ailesbury himself saw and signed : his signature does not appear in the supplementary volume which may be termed an Analysis Book. The latter was maintained by Simon Urlin, perhaps for the purpose of enabling him to answer any queries which his employer might put to him. The book dealt with expenditure only, which Urlin subdivided into separate accounts under the following headings : Arrears, (i.e. expenditure attributable to preceding years); Annuitys; Buttery, (brewing and baking); Cates, (i.e. edible provisions); Extraordinarys; Furniture, (including household equipment); Fuel; Housebandry, (husbandry); Gardens; Journeys; Liverys; My Lady, (her personal expenditure); Necessarys; Rewards, (gratuities); Repairs; Stables; Stores; Wages, (permanent staff); Workmen, (casual).
Only a few of Lord Ailesbury’s account books have survived; but as a result of Urlin’s analytical labours we have a large volume, covering the years 1676-1682 and consisting of 186 paper pages measuring 15 ¾ in. × 10 ¼ in. These are bound into a vellum cover with cardboard stiffeners. The pages, excluding fly-leaves, are numbered from 1 to 352, and at the end is an index to the various headings. In addition to those already noted are three which had become redundant by 1678, namely : New Garden, (a project apparently completed in 1677); Lord Bruce, (i.e. expenditure on behalf of Lord Ailesbury’s heir, who became financially independent in 1676); Mr. Makaitnay, (i.e. funeral expenses of a family retainer who had died in 1676).

V. bicolor, V. trifolia s. str. and V. rotundifolia are part of a species complex that has recorded medicinal use in the Philippines. We assembled the first chloroplast genome of V. bicolor through next-generation sequencing and compared this to earlier established chloroplast genomes of V. trifolia s. str. and V. rotundifolia to provide additional insights into their genotypic differences. To ensure the continued utility of the research outputs in case of future taxonomic revisions, we characterized the morphology of PBN 2018-674, the reference germplasm utilized to generate the plastome. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of V. bicolor was 154,460 bp long with 131 coding genes comprising 87 mRNA genes, 36 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. Using a separate accession from a different type locality, an identical chloroplast genome was equally established, indicating its conserved nature. When compared to V. trifolia s. str. and V. rotundifolia, slight variations were observed in genome features between these species; however, single nucleotide polymorphisms were exhibited in 13 protein-coding genes that often have a conserved nature. A phylogenetic analysis of the assembled genome, together with 12 other Lamiaceae species, exhibited high bootstrap support (>88%) within the species complex, and associated V. trifolia as the closest relative of V. bicolor. The identified variations in the plastomes can be utilized as markers that could distinguish the three closely related genotypes which can help the Philippine herbal industry provide a more stable source of quality herbal medicines.

Background
Evidence suggests that cognitive subtypes exist in schizophrenia that may reflect different neurobiological trajectories. We aimed to identify whether IQ-derived cognitive subtypes are present in early-phase schizophrenia-spectrum disorder and examine their relationship with brain structure and markers of neuroinflammation.
Method161 patients with recent-onset schizophrenia spectrum disorder (<5 years) were recruited. Estimated premorbid and current IQ were calculated using the Wechsler Test of Adult Reading and a 4-subtest WAIS-III. Cognitive subtypes were identified with k-means clustering. Freesurfer was used to analyse 3.0 T MRI. Blood samples were analysed for hs-CRP, IL-1RA, IL-6 and TNF-α.
ResultsThree subtypes were identified indicating preserved (PIQ), deteriorated (DIQ) and compromised (CIQ) IQ. Absolute total brain volume was significantly smaller in CIQ compared to PIQ and DIQ, and intracranial volume was smaller in CIQ than PIQ (F(2, 124) = 6.407, p = 0.002) indicative of premorbid smaller brain size in the CIQ group. CIQ had higher levels of hs-CRP than PIQ (F(2, 131) = 5.01, p = 0.008). PIQ showed differentially impaired processing speed and verbal learning compared to IQ-matched healthy controls.
ConclusionsThe findings add validity of a neurodevelopmental subtype of schizophrenia identified by comparing estimated premorbid and current IQ and characterised by smaller premorbid brain volume and higher measures of low-grade inflammation (CRP).

Approximately, 1.7 million individuals in the United States have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). This has disproportionately impacted adults, but many children have been infected and hospitalised as well. To date, there is not much information published addressing the cardiac workup and monitoring of children with COVID-19. Here, we share the approach to the cardiac workup and monitoring utilised at a large congenital heart centre in New York City, the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.

Introduction:
Although the science of team science is no longer a new field, the measurement of team science and its standardization remain in relatively early stages of development. To describe the current state of team science assessment, we conducted an integrative review of measures of research collaboration quality and outcomes.
Methods:Collaboration measures were identified using both a literature review based on specific keywords and an environmental scan. Raters abstracted details about the measures using a standard tool. Measures related to collaborations with clinical care, education, and program delivery were excluded from this review.
Results:We identified 44 measures of research collaboration quality, which included 35 measures with reliability and some form of statistical validity reported. Most scales focused on group dynamics. We identified 89 measures of research collaboration outcomes; 16 had reliability and 15 had a validity statistic. Outcome measures often only included simple counts of products; publications rarely defined how counts were delimited, obtained, or assessed for reliability. Most measures were tested in only one venue.
Conclusions:Although models of collaboration have been developed, in general, strong, reliable, and valid measurements of such collaborations have not been conducted or accepted into practice. This limitation makes it difficult to compare the characteristics and impacts of research teams across studies or to identify the most important areas for intervention. To advance the science of team science, we provide recommendations regarding the development and psychometric testing of measures of collaboration quality and outcomes that can be replicated and broadly applied across studies.

Background
Many women experience both vasomotor menopausal symptoms (VMS) and depressed mood at midlife, but little is known regarding the prospective bi-directional relationships between VMS and depressed mood and the role of sleep difficulties in both directions.
MethodsA pooled analysis was conducted using data from 21 312 women (median: 50 years, interquartile range 49−51) in eight studies from the InterLACE consortium. The degree of VMS, sleep difficulties, and depressed mood was self-reported and categorised as never, rarely, sometimes, and often (if reporting frequency) or never, mild, moderate, and severe (if reporting severity). Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the bi-directional associations adjusted for within-study correlation.
ResultsAt baseline, the prevalence of VMS (40%, range 13–62%) and depressed mood (26%, 8–41%) varied substantially across studies, and a strong dose-dependent association between VMS and likelihood of depressed mood was found. Over 3 years of follow-up, women with often/severe VMS at baseline were more likely to have subsequent depressed mood compared with those without VMS (odds ratios (OR) 1.56, 1.27–1.92). Women with often/severe depressed mood at baseline were also more likely to have subsequent VMS than those without depressed mood (OR 1.89, 1.47–2.44). With further adjustment for the degree of sleep difficulties at baseline, the OR of having a subsequent depressed mood associated with often/severe VMS was attenuated and no longer significant (OR 1.13, 0.90–1.40). Conversely, often/severe depressed mood remained significantly associated with subsequent VMS (OR 1.80, 1.38–2.34).
ConclusionsDifficulty in sleeping largely explained the relationship between VMS and subsequent depressed mood, but it had little impact on the relationship between depressed mood and subsequent VMS.

A study to evaluate the effect of application time of day (TOD) on the efficacy of five burndown herbicides was conducted in Alabama and Tennessee. Treatments of 2,4-D, dicamba, glufosinate, paraquat, and saflufenacil were applied at sunrise, midday, or sunset to a native population of horseweed and analyzed separately. Control of glyphosate-resistant (GR) horseweed with 2,4-D, dicamba, glufosinate, and saflufenacil was greatest from the midday application. Percentage of living horseweed counts for all of these herbicides followed a similar pattern. Control from paraquat was lowest at the midday timing and greatest from the sunset application with surviving horseweed plant populations reflecting those control ratings. Application TOD significantly affected all of the herbicides in this research. Applications of 2,4-D, dicamba, glufosinate, and saflufenacil are more efficacious when applied during the middle portion of the day, while paraquat is more efficacious when applied at sunset for maximum horseweed control.

White dwarfs are becoming useful tools for many areas of astronomy. They can be used as accurate chronometers over Gyr timescales. They are also clues to the history of star formation in our galaxy. Many of these studies require accurate estimates of the mass of the white dwarf. The theoretical mass-radius relation is often invoked to provide these mass estimates. While the theoretical mass-radius relation is well developed, observational tests of this relation show a much larger scatter in the results than expected. High precision observational tests to confirm this relation are required. Gaia is providing distance measurements which will remove one of the main source of uncertainty affecting most previous observations. We combine Gaia distances with spectra from the Hubble and FUSE satelites to make precise tests of the white dwarf mass-radius relation.

Site-specific weed management can increase crop production efficiency by minimizing herbicide input costs without compromising crop yields. A reduction in herbicide inputs resulting from site-specific weed management may also decrease the probability level of nonpoint pollution compared with conventional herbicide applications. A 4.5-ha field was selected to compare site-specific and conventional weed management techniques in 1997 and 1998 at Knoxville, TN. Variable rate applications (VRAs) of atrazine preemergence (PRE) followed by dicamba postemergence (POST) were investigated for the reduction of herbicide inputs and their resulting impact on weed control and corn yield. VRAs of atrazine were on the basis of weed density data collected in 1996. VRAs of dicamba were according to common cocklebur density evaluations within the field. Compared with conventional applications, atrazine usage was decreased by 43 and 32% in the site-specific application treatments in 1997 and 1998, respectively. VRAs of dicamba reduced herbicide inputs by greater than 45% for 1997 and 1998. Corn yields were similar for the conventional and site-specific treatments in both years. On the basis of these data, site-specific herbicide applications have the greatest potential and least risk for managing weeds when POST or PRE + POST variable rate herbicide applications are used.

Background
In first-episode schizophrenia, longer duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) predicts poorer outcomes.
AimsTo address whether the relationship between DUP and outcome is a direct causal one or the result of association between symptoms and/or cognitive functioning and social functioning at the same time point.
MethodSymptoms, social function and cognitive function were assessed in 98 patients with first-episode schizphrenia at presentation and 1 year later.
ResultsThere was no significant clinical difference between participants with short and long DUP at presentation. Linear regression analyses revealed that longer DUP significantly predicted more severe positive and negative symptoms and poorer social function at 1 year, independent of scores at presentation. Path analyses revealed independent direct relationships between DUP and social function, core negative symptoms and positive symptoms. There was no significant association between DUP and cognition.
ConclusionsLonger DUP predicts poor social function independently of symptoms. The findings underline the importance of taking account of the phenomenological overlap between measures of negative symptoms and social function when investigating the effects of DUP.

Background
The impact of co-morbid substance use in first-episode schizophrenia has not been fully explored.
MethodThis naturalistic follow-up of a cohort of 152 people with first-episode schizophrenia examined substance use and clinical outcome in terms of symptoms and social and neuropsychological function.
ResultsData were collected on 85 (56%) of the patient cohort after a median period of 14 months. Over the follow-up period, the proportion of smokers rose from 60% at baseline to 64%. While 30% reported lifetime problem drinking of alcohol at baseline, only 15% had problem drinking at follow-up. Furthermore, while at baseline 63% reported lifetime cannabis use and 32% were currently using the drug, by the follow-up assessment the latter figure had fallen to 18.5%. At follow-up, persistent substance users had significantly more severe positive and depressive symptoms and greater overall severity of illness. A report of no lifetime substance use at baseline was associated with greater improvement in spatial working memory (SWM) at follow-up.
ConclusionsPast substance use may impede recovery of SWM performance in people with schizophrenia in the year or so following first presentation to psychiatric services. The prevalence of substance use other than tobacco tends to diminish over this period, in the absence of specific interventions. Persistent substance use in first-episode schizophrenia is associated with more severe positive and depressive symptoms but not negative symptoms, and should be a target for specific treatment intervention.

Background
Substance use may be a risk factor for the onset of schizophrenia.
AimsTo examine the association between substance use and age at onset in a UK, inner-city sample of people with recent-onset schizophrenia.
MethodThe study sample consisted of 152 people recruited to the West London First-Episode Schizophrenia Study. Self-reported data on drug and alcohol use, as well as information on age at onset of psychosis, were collected. Mental state, cognition (IQ, memory and executive function) and social function were also assessed.
ResultsIn total, 60% of the participants were smokers, 27% reported a history of problems with alcohol use, 35% reported current substance use (not including alcohol), and 68% reported lifetime substance use (cannabis and psychostimulants were most commonly used). Cannabis use and gender had independent effects on age at onset of psychosis, after adjusting for alcohol misuse and use of other drugs.
ConclusionsThe strong association between self-reported cannabis use and earlier onset of psychosis provides further evidence that schizophrenia may be precipitated by cannabis use and/or that the early onset of symptoms is a risk factor for cannabis use.
