Background:
In schizophrenia treatment-compliance is a strong predictor of outcome, it depends on a longer lasting therapeutic alliance. SMS (Short Message Service) sent via mobile phones is an adequate tool to establish therapeutic contingency as was shown in a study on bulimia. This programme compliments outpatient treatment and is based on an exchange of SMS-messages between patient and therapist. On a weekly basis, patients supply information on subjective well-being, sleep, social contacts, and attitude towards medication. The patient's status is then rated as improved, deteriorated, or unchanged compared to the previous week and an adequate feedback message is sent. The study aimed at assessing feasibility and acceptance of this intervention in schizophrenia patients.
Methods:Thirty-six patients during inpatient-treatment for diagnoses of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder were screened and found eligible for participation. Those who agreed to participation were assessed with the SCID for DSM-IV and received instructions towards the use of the programme, which started after discharge and was designed to last for 4 months in addition to outpatient-treatment as usual.
Results:Eight patients agreed to participation (7 male, 1 female, mean age 29 years), six of whom dropped out during the first three weeks, and only one patient completed the study.
Conclusion:In the presented study, patients suffering from schizophrenia showed a low acceptance rate of additional SMS support complimenting their regular outpatient-treatment. As opposed to our hypothesis and contrary to experiences with bulimia patients integrating an SMS intervention into the treatment of schizophrenia does not seem feasible.

Objective:
This study aimed to link expression patterns of AQP1, AQP5, Bcl-2 and p16 to clinicopathological characteristics of oro-hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas.
Methods:Immunohistochemical expression of AQP1, AQP5, Bcl-2 and p16 was investigated in 107 consecutive oro-hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma cases. Molecular interrelationship and correlations with clinicopathological parameters and survival were computed.
Results:AQP1 was expressed exclusively by a subgroup of basaloid-like squamous cell carcinomas. AQP5 was detected in 25.2 per cent of the samples, showing significant association with the absence of p16 and Bcl-2 (p = 0.018; p = 0.010). In multivariate analysis, overexpression of p16 was significantly correlated with favourable overall survival (p = 0.014).
Conclusion:AQP5 defined a subset of patients with Bcl-2-negative and p16-negative tumours with a poor clinical outcome. AQP1 was found to be a marker of a subgroup of aggressive basaloid-like squamous cell carcinomas. These findings suggest that AQP1 and AQP5 are interesting candidates for further studies on risk group classification and personalised treatment of oro-hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas.

ZnGeP2 crystallized from the melt via horizontal gradient freezing shows the tendency to decompose into Ge and GeP when the equilibrium vapor pressure is not exactly controlled during the entire crystallization process. Using differential thermal analysis (DTA) it was found that ZnGeP2 has a truly congruent melting point of 1311 K. Adding small amounts of the elements and binaries in the ternary system Zn-Ge-P to stoichiometric ZnGeP2 a significant deflection of the liquidus curve was observed at the melting point of ZnGeP2- From DTA, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), transmission and conductivity measurements it was concluded that the melt grown material was highly compensated. The presence of a broad acceptor and donor band in the band gap could be associated with phosphorous and zinc point defects in the crystal lattice. It is assumed that the defect concentrations are of the order 1019 cm−3.

ZnGeP2 can be transported by chemical vapor transport (CVT) using phosphorus or ZnP2 as transporting agent. Since germanium has a seven order of magnitude smaller partial pressure than zinc and phosphorus solely the formation of a volatile GePy (y≥l) species can explain the CVT-growth which was observed in a temperature range from 973 to 1573 K. To stabilize this species phosphorus pressures in the bar range are needed. Using absorption spectroscopy to analyze the equilibrium vapor phase composition over P, GeP and ZnGeP2, absorption lines were found adjacent to P2 band heads in the wavelength range from 180 to 260 nm which were addressed as band heads of an unknown GePy species. Quadrupole mass spectroscopy (QMS) measurements revealed that this species is not stable at lower pressures decomposing presynthesized GeP and ZnGeP2 in a Knudsen cell. In the temperature range from 550 to 800 K at total pressures of 10−7 to 10−6 mbar, ZnGeP2 decomposes into Zn and P4 whereas Zn is the dominant gas phase species. Under vacuum ZnGeP2 starts to decompose at 600 K while in a N2 atmosphere decomposition occurs at 923 K. By adding ZnP2 (5mg/cm3) to polycrystalline ZnGeP2, which was placed in an evacuated and closed quartz glass ampoule, red transparent crystals were yielded in a temperature gradient ΔT= 1073–1023 K.
