Background
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, with its impact on our way of life, is affecting our experiences and mental health. Notably, individuals with mental disorders have been reported to have a higher risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2. Personality traits could represent an important determinant of preventative health behaviour and, therefore, the risk of contracting the virus.
AimsWe examined overlapping genetic underpinnings between major psychiatric disorders, personality traits and susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
MethodLinkage disequilibrium score regression was used to explore the genetic correlations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) susceptibility with psychiatric disorders and personality traits based on data from the largest available respective genome-wide association studies (GWAS). In two cohorts (the PsyCourse (n = 1346) and the HeiDE (n = 3266) study), polygenic risk scores were used to analyse if a genetic association between, psychiatric disorders, personality traits and COVID-19 susceptibility exists in individual-level data.
ResultsWe observed no significant genetic correlations of COVID-19 susceptibility with psychiatric disorders. For personality traits, there was a significant genetic correlation for COVID-19 susceptibility with extraversion (P = 1.47 × 10−5; genetic correlation 0.284). Yet, this was not reflected in individual-level data from the PsyCourse and HeiDE studies.
ConclusionsWe identified no significant correlation between genetic risk factors for severe psychiatric disorders and genetic risk for COVID-19 susceptibility. Among the personality traits, extraversion showed evidence for a positive genetic association with COVID-19 susceptibility, in one but not in another setting. Overall, these findings highlight a complex contribution of genetic and non-genetic components in the interaction between COVID-19 susceptibility and personality traits or mental disorders.

Background
Evidence has accumulated that implicates childhood trauma in the aetiology of psychosis, but our understanding of the putative psychological processes and mechanisms through which childhood trauma impacts on individuals and contributes to the development of psychosis remains limited. We aimed to investigate whether stress sensitivity and threat anticipation underlie the association between childhood abuse and psychosis.
MethodWe used the Experience Sampling Method to measure stress, threat anticipation, negative affect, and psychotic experiences in 50 first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients, 44 At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) participants, and 52 controls. Childhood abuse was assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire.
ResultsAssociations of minor socio-environmental stress in daily life with negative affect and psychotic experiences were modified by sexual abuse and group (all pFWE < 0.05). While there was strong evidence that these associations were greater in FEP exposed to high levels of sexual abuse, and some evidence of greater associations in ARMS exposed to high levels of sexual abuse, controls exposed to high levels of sexual abuse were more resilient and reported less intense negative emotional reactions to socio-environmental stress. A similar pattern was evident for threat anticipation.
ConclusionsElevated sensitivity and lack of resilience to socio-environmental stress and enhanced threat anticipation in daily life may be important psychological processes underlying the association between childhood sexual abuse and psychosis.

The ability of electron microscopes to analyze all the atoms in individual nanostructures is limited by lens aberrations. However, recent advances in aberration-correcting electron optics have led to greatly enhanced instrument performance and new techniques of electron microscopy. The development of an ultrastable electron microscope with aberration-correcting optics and a monochromated high-brightness source has significantly improved instrument resolution and contrast. In the present work, we report information transfer beyond 50 pm and show images of single gold atoms with a signal-to-noise ratio as large as 10. The instrument's new capabilities were exploited to detect a buried Σ3 {112} grain boundary and observe the dynamic arrangements of single atoms and atom pairs with sub-angstrom resolution. These results mark an important step toward meeting the challenge of determining the three-dimensional atomic-scale structure of nanomaterials.

In this study the electrical properties of thin films of Ysubstituted zirconia were investigated. The films were prepared using a polymer precursor technique and investigated in the temperature region 250 to 900°C. It was shown, that impedance spectroscopy (IS) and direct current (DC) conductivity measurements results are in good agreement for the films measured in plane for temperatures greater than 400°C. Due to the high resistance resulting from a planar geometry, the DC measurements were found preferable at temperatures <600°C.
Since in planar geometry the films represent a high resistance to the measurement circuit, it is important to minimize sources of electrical leakage, so different sample holders and substrates were investigated. A sapphire substrate and sample holder design using separated alumina single bore tubing for each electrode provided the lowest electrical leakage.
The experimental results showed that electrical behavior of all of the films produced at low annealing temperatures (less than 400°C) was similar regardless of Y content. These films have relatively low conductivity and an activation energy of about 1.5eV. The influence of different Y content started to appear after annealing above 600°C.
The results of the film conductivity measurements were compared with those for the bulk samples of Y stabilized zirconia prepared from 200nm powder by tape casting. These samples were measured by IS in plane and through the tape. It was shown that electrical properties of bulk and thin film material were similar.

The preparation of dense, high conductive electrolyte layers is important for the development of intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells and other devices based on oxygen-ion conductivity. Thus a number of techniques have been used to produce these structures. This study makes use of one of these methods to produce dense nanocrystalline 0.1 to 1 micron layers of zirconia.
Polymeric precursors were used to prepare zirconia films with different level of yttrium substitution. The films were annealed at a series of temperatures in the range of 400 to 1000°C and were characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was found that initially (after 400°C annealing) the films had cubic structure and grain size of ∼5 nm regardless of Y content. The situation changed when the annealing temperature was increased. Y (16mol %) stabilized zirconia (YSZ) did remain cubic over the entire temperature region investigated (up to 1000°C), but for compositions with lower Y content changes in crystal structure occurred. The samples with 4 and 8mol% Y transformed to the tetragonal phase at about 700°C, and undoped zirconia became monoclinic at the same temperature.
The results were compared with sintered zirconia and it was shown that the behavior of thin films is quite similar to that of the sintered material, if the annealing temperature was high enough (>700°C). The main differences between polymeric prepared films and sintered material are the existence of the cubic structure at low temperatures (< 600°C) and lower transition temperatures to the high temperature phase, which can be explained by small initial grain size in polymer-derived zirconia.

Self-diffusion on the As sublattice in intrinsic GaAs was investigated in a direct way by As tracer diffusion measurements using the radioisotopes 73As and 76As and in an indirect way by annealing of buried nitrogen doping layers in epitaxially grown GaAs/GaAs:N heterostructures. The latter experiments were analyzed by secondary ion mass spectroscopy and interpreted within the framework of the kick-out mechanism yielding the As diffusivities
mediated by As interstitials IAs. Comparison of
with tracer diffusion coefficients
– including data reported in the literature–points to a substantial contribution of IAs to As diffusion in intrinsic GaAs under As-rich ambient conditions.

The recently discovered high transition temperature superconducting oxide Ba2yCu3O7−x is a p-type psuedoperovskite with ordered oxygen defects. The normal state conductivity is treated in terms of equilibrium defect concentrations using a modified Verway model.
