Echinococcosis poses a significant threat to public health. The Chinese government has implemented prevention and control measures to mitigate the impact of the disease. By analyzing data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, we found that implementation of these measures has reduced the infection rate by nearly 50% between 2004 to 2022 (from 0.3975 to 0.1944 per 100,000 person-years). Nonetheless, some regions still bear a significant disease burden, and lack of detailed information limites further evaluation of the effects on both alveolar and cystic echinococcosis. Our analysis supports the continuing implementation of these measures and suggests that enhanced wildlife management, case-based strategies, and surveillance systems will facilitate disease control.

This study aimed to estimate the disease burden of hepatitis E in a rural region in China. A total of 489 hepatitis E cases were reported according to a community-based survey in an active hepatitis surveillance system between 2008 and 2015, the questionnaire and record-review methods were constructed to evaluate the economic and health burden of hepatitis E virus infections from societal perspectives. All costs were converted to US$ in 2015. The age-standardized cumulative incidence rate was 107·9/100 000, and the median age-standardized annual incidence rate was 16·5/100 000. The median direct, indirect, and intangible cost were $1046·0, $49·1, and $77·3/patient, respectively, and the median economic burden per patient was $1836·5, which accounted for 51·2% of per capita disposable income. Moreover, the median quality-adjusted life year and visual analogue scale score were 0·7 and 70·0/case, respectively. Both economic burden and health burden of inpatients was more serious than that of outpatients (P < 0·001). Disease burden of hepatitis E is heavy on patients, their families, and society. More studies on the disease burden of hepatitis E are necessary to increase social awareness of the disease and confirm reasonable disease-control measures.

Background
To examine barriers to initiation and continuation of mental health treatment among individuals with common mental disorders.
MethodData were from the World Health Organization (WHO) World Mental Health (WMH) surveys. Representative household samples were interviewed face to face in 24 countries. Reasons to initiate and continue treatment were examined in a subsample (n = 636 78) and analyzed at different levels of clinical severity.
ResultsAmong those with a DSM-IV disorder in the past 12 months, low perceived need was the most common reason for not initiating treatment and more common among moderate and mild than severe cases. Women and younger people with disorders were more likely to recognize a need for treatment. A desire to handle the problem on one's own was the most common barrier among respondents with a disorder who perceived a need for treatment (63.8%). Attitudinal barriers were much more important than structural barriers to both initiating and continuing treatment. However, attitudinal barriers dominated for mild-moderate cases and structural barriers for severe cases. Perceived ineffectiveness of treatment was the most commonly reported reason for treatment drop-out (39.3%), followed by negative experiences with treatment providers (26.9% of respondents with severe disorders).
ConclusionsLow perceived need and attitudinal barriers are the major barriers to seeking and staying in treatment among individuals with common mental disorders worldwide. Apart from targeting structural barriers, mainly in countries with poor resources, increasing population mental health literacy is an important endeavor worldwide.

For improving the performance of a miniature loudspeaker, engineers have been pursuing a goal of lowering its first damped frequency to have a broad and smooth region of its sound-pressure-level response. This article applies the approach of electro-mechano-acoustical analogy to study the first damped frequency of a miniature loudspeaker used for cellular phones. Using the analogy approach, the authors derive an explicit formulation for the sound-pressure-level of a typical miniature loudspeaker of dynamic type. The veracity of the derived formulation is verified by comparing with the experimental result recorded by B and K apparatus. The derived formulation is further simplified by neglecting factors that are either irrelevant or insignificant for the first damped frequency. Through basic algebraic and calculus operations, this article also presents an explicit form of the first damped frequency. This work has laid the platform for engineers to tailor the design in pursuit of improving the performance of miniature loudspeakers.

We have observed ultraviolet photosensitive properties of SrTiO3 single crystals. The photoresponse signal reaches 7.6 mV under a bias voltage of 110 V and an on-sample energy of 250 nJ for a 15-ps-duration 355 nm laser pulse. A linear relationship is obtained to the peak signal as a function of bias without any saturation trend from 1 to 110 V. Ultrafast characteristic as a function of time was also presented with the rise time as short as 750 ps. Furthermore, a weak photoresponse was detected with a large bias of 2.5 kV under a 420-nm-wavelength laser pulse due to band edge tilting, and drop three orders of magnitude than that under the 355 nm laser pulse, indicating the setup consisting of SrTiO3 single crystal is suitable for detecting ultraviolet radiation.

We have made a comparative invetigation of the surface microstructures of epitaxially grown ferroelectric SrBi2Ta2O9, BaTiO3 films, and metallic SrRuO3 films, using scanning probe microscopy. Though their lattices (or pseudotetrogonal lattices) match closely with SrTiO3 (001) substrates, SPM results show very different surface microstructures. The surfaces of SrRuO3 films display atomically flat terraces of 90° oriented step edges. The size of steps is about 6 Å. The surface of BaTiO3 films deposited at various temperatures displays uniform rectangular islands. Different stages of SrBi2Ta2O9 epitaxial growth have been studied on thickness gradient films, which show clearly 2D nucleation and layer-by-layer growth, following a transition from 2D to 3D island growth. It finally develops into a surface exhibiting round hills consisting of curved terraces with size of steps ranging from 6 Å to 12.5 Å.

Through a post treatment of light emitting porous silicon in boilingwater, a large blue shift of its photoluminescence (PL) spectrum hasbeen observed and a stable blue-green light emission at the peak wavelength down to 500 nm is achieved. The effect of boiling water treatment is suggested to be a kind of oxidation, which could reduce thesize of the Si column, fill up some micropores and strengthen the Siskeleton. The photoluminescence microscopic observation shows that the surface of blue light emitting porous silicon is composed of manysmall uniformly light-emitting domains at the size of several tens of μm. Fourier transform infrared reflection (FTIR) measurements show that the formation of Si-H bonds is not responsible for the visible luminescence in the very thin Si wires.
