NASA’s all-sky survey mission, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), is specifically engineered to detect exoplanets that transit bright stars. Thus far, TESS has successfully identified approximately 400 transiting exoplanets, in addition to roughly 6 000 candidate exoplanets pending confirmation. In this study, we present the results of our ongoing project, the Validation of Transiting Exoplanets using Statistical Tools (VaTEST). Our dedicated effort is focused on the confirmation and characterisation of new exoplanets through the application of statistical validation tools. Through a combination of ground-based telescope data, high-resolution imaging, and the utilisation of the statistical validation tool known as TRICERATOPS, we have successfully discovered eight potential super-Earths. These planets bear the designations: TOI-238b (1.61$^{+0.09} _{-0.10}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-771b (1.42$^{+0.11} _{-0.09}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-871b (1.66$^{+0.11} _{-0.11}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-1467b (1.83$^{+0.16} _{-0.15}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-1739b (1.69$^{+0.10} _{-0.08}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-2068b (1.82$^{+0.16} _{-0.15}$ R$_\oplus$), TOI-4559b (1.42$^{+0.13} _{-0.11}$ R$_\oplus$), and TOI-5799b (1.62$^{+0.19} _{-0.13}$ R$_\oplus$). Among all these planets, six of them fall within the region known as ‘keystone planets’, which makes them particularly interesting for study. Based on the location of TOI-771b and TOI-4559b below the radius valley we characterised them as likely super-Earths, though radial velocity mass measurements for these planets will provide more details about their characterisation. It is noteworthy that planets within the size range investigated herein are absent from our own solar system, making their study crucial for gaining insights into the evolutionary stages between Earth and Neptune.

Rabies virus (RABV) is a deadly zoonosis that circulates in wild carnivore populations in North America. Intensive management within the USA and Canada has been conducted to control the spread of the raccoon (Procyon lotor) variant of RABV and work towards elimination. We examined RABV occurrence across the northeastern USA and southeastern Québec, Canada during 2008–2018 using a multi-method, dynamic occupancy model. Using a 10 km × 10 km grid overlaid on the landscape, we examined the probability that a grid cell was occupied with RABV and relationships with management activities (oral rabies vaccination (ORV) and trap-vaccinate-release efforts), habitat, neighbour effects and temporal trends. We compared raccoon RABV detection probabilities between different surveillance samples (e.g. animals that are strange acting, road-kill, public health samples). The management of RABV through ORV was found to be the greatest driver in reducing the occurrence of rabies on the landscape. Additionally, RABV occupancy declined further with increasing duration of ORV baiting programmes. Grid cells north of ORV management were at or near elimination ($\hat{\psi }_{{\rm north}}$ = 0.00, s.e. = 0.15), managed areas had low RABV occupancy ($\hat{\psi }_{{\rm managed}}$ = 0.20, s.e. = 0.29) and enzootic areas had the highest level of RABV occupancy ($\hat{\psi }_{{\rm south}}$ = 0.83, s.e. = 0.06). These results provide evidence that past management actions have been being successful at the goals of reducing and controlling the raccoon variant of RABV. At a finer scale we also found that vaccine bait type and bait density impacted RABV occupancy. Detection probabilities varied; samples from strange acting animals and public health had the highest detection rates. Our results support the movement of the ORV zone south within the USA due to high elimination probabilities along the US border with Québec. Additional enhanced rabies surveillance is still needed to ensure elimination is maintained.

Aim:
The patient experience of radiotherapy magnetic resonance (MR) simulation is unknown. This study aims to evaluate the patient experience of MR simulation in comparison to computed tomography (CT) simulation, identifying the quality of patient experience and pathway changes which could improve patient experience outcomes.
Materials and Methods:MR simulation was acquired for 46 anal and rectal cancer patients. Patient experience questionnaires were provided directly after MR simulation. Questionnaire responses were assessed after 33 patients (cohort one). Changes to the scanning pathway were identified and implemented. The impact of changes was assessed by cohort two (13 patients).
Results:Response rates were 85% (cohort one) and 54% (cohort two). 75% of cohort one respondents found the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) experience to be better or similar to their CT experience. Implemented changes included routine use of blankets, earplugs and headphones, music and feet-first positioning and further MRI protocol optimisation. All cohort two respondents found the MRI experience to be better or similar to the CT experience.
Findings:MR simulation can be a comfortable and positive experience that is comparable to that of standard radiotherapy CT simulation. Special attention is required due to the fundamental differences between CT and MRI scanning.

Background
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disease burden worldwide, with lifetime prevalence in the United States of 17%. Here we present the results of the first prospective, large-scale, patient- and rater-blind, randomized controlled trial evaluating the clinical importance of achieving congruence between combinatorial pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing and medication selection for MDD.
Methods1,167 outpatients diagnosed with MDD and an inadequate response to ≥1 psychotropic medications were enrolled and randomized 1:1 to a Treatment as Usual (TAU) arm or PGx-guided care arm. Combinatorial PGx testing categorized medications in three groups based on the level of gene-drug interactions: use as directed, use with caution, or use with increased caution and more frequent monitoring. Patient assessments were performed at weeks 0 (baseline), 4, 8, 12 and 24. Patients, site raters, and central raters were blinded in both arms until after week 8. In the guided-care arm, physicians had access to the combinatorial PGx test result to guide medication selection. Primary outcomes utilized the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D17) and included symptom improvement (percent change in HAM-D17 from baseline), response (50% decrease in HAM-D17 from baseline), and remission (HAM-D17<7) at the fully blinded week 8 time point. The durability of patient outcomes was assessed at week 24. Medications were considered congruent with PGx test results if they were in the ‘use as directed’ or ‘use with caution’ report categories while medications in the ‘use with increased caution and more frequent monitoring’ were considered incongruent. Patients who started on incongruent medications were analyzed separately according to whether they changed to congruent medications by week8.
ResultsAt week 8, symptom improvement for individuals in the guided-care arm was not significantly different than TAU (27.2% versus 24.4%, p=0.11). However, individuals in the guided-care arm were more likely than those in TAU to achieve remission (15% versus 10%; p<0.01) and response (26% versus 20%; p=0.01). Remission rates, response rates, and symptom reductions continued to improve in the guided-treatment arm until the 24week time point. Congruent prescribing increased to 91% in the guided-care arm by week 8. Among patients who were taking one or more incongruent medication at baseline, those who changed to congruent medications by week 8 demonstrated significantly greater symptom improvement (p<0.01), response (p=0.04), and remission rates (p<0.01) compared to those who persisted on incongruent medications.
ConclusionsCombinatorial PGx testing improves short- and long-term response and remission rates for MDD compared to standard of care. In addition, prescribing congruency with PGx-guided medication recommendations is important for achieving symptom improvement, response, and remission for MDD patients.

New and emerging process technologies such as Damascene interconnect, metal gate and metal silicide processes are creating metal contamination control challenges for current and future generations of integrated circuits. In this work, we studied the contamination of oxidized silicon wafers by several metals of industrial importance including copper, cobalt, sodium, iron and nickel. Contamination was applied by spin-coating in a range from 20ppb to 500 ppb. Such levels are representative of exposure challenges induced during chemical processes such as CMP (chemical mechanical planarization) cleans. Solvated contamination ions were driven into the oxide layer by corona temperature stress (CTS). The concentrations of metallic species incorporated within the oxide by CTS were quantified using VPD-ICPMS (vapor phase decomposition) and SIMS (secondary ion mass spectrometry) surface analysis techniques. Noncontact COCOS (Corona Oxide Characterization of Semiconductor) methods were employed to measure the electrical properties and reliability of nascent and contaminated oxide/silicon structures. We show that in the absence of significant signals from the surface analysis techniques the COCOS methods show signatures of the metallic contamination in the measurement results.

Summary
What is so special about electricity?
As the sun goes down in the evening sky, cities around the world are illuminated in electric light. Photos from satellites orbiting the earth show clearly the outlines of modern society etched against the darkness. We show these pictures on the cover of this book to underline the special role played by electricity in the contemporary world.
Yet, although electricity is a universal feature of modern society, should we expect the firms that produce this universal commodity to be organized along broadly similar lines internationally? There are prima facie arguments on both sides. On the one hand, common factors of production and technological history suggest broad institutional similarities. On the other hand, the influence of particular national traditions, political culture, and experience argue for differences. There is no definitive answer to this question, but it is becoming more and more interesting for those who follow institutional developments in the industry and those who seek to improve economic efficiency in the electricity sector.
The electricity industry in many countries is experiencing a wave of structural change. Much of this we document here. It is not immediately clear, however, why reorganization of this industry is occurring now, what is the driving force, and whether there will be an international convergence in its structure. Our inquiry will help to address these large and somewhat mysterious questions.
The research represented by this volume is a collaborative effort of academic investigators from around the world. Each chapter describes the electricity industry and its regulation in one country (or several geographically proximate countries).

Pyrolyses of a set of silicon and nitrogen substituted polysilazancs arc conducted under a set of standard conditions (5°C/min to 900°C in a nitrogen atmosphere). The apparent ceramic compositions and ceramic yields for pyrolyzed samples of the polysilazancs -[Ph(H)SiNH]x-, -[C6H13(H)SiNH]x-, -[Me(H)SiNH]x-, and -[H2SiNMc]x- arc determined. Preliminary conclusions concerning structure/reactivity relationships are discussed based on the pyrolysis results.

In a recent issue of MEDICOLEGAL NEWS, Christoffel and Stein reviewed and lamented the “lack of legislative action” against smoking, and blamed the “political and economic strength of the tobacco industry” for “this failure” to protect the public from the costs attributable to death, disease, and disability associated with cigarette smoking, described as the “primary preventable health risk” in the United States. An editorial rebuttal by Matthews noted that cigarette use may have other causes than the tobacco industry, that there may be little consensus as to the need to condemn smoking, and that “moral entrepreneurs” such as Christoffel and Stein could “buoy their spirits” by confining themselves initially to the business of protecting non-smokers from the consequences of people smoking in their presence.
