We describe the scientific goals and survey design of the First Large Absorption Survey in H i (FLASH), a wide field survey for 21-cm line absorption in neutral atomic hydrogen (H i) at intermediate cosmological redshifts. FLASH will be carried out with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescope and is planned to cover the sky south of $\delta \approx +40\,\deg$ at frequencies between 711.5 and 999.5 MHz. At redshifts between $z = 0.4$ and $1.0$ (look-back times of 4 – 8 Gyr), the H i content of the Universe has been poorly explored due to the difficulty of carrying out radio surveys for faint 21-cm line emission and, at ultra-violet wavelengths, space-borne searches for Damped Lyman- $\alpha$ absorption in quasar spectra. The ASKAP wide field of view and large spectral bandwidth, in combination with a radio-quiet site, will enable a search for absorption lines in the radio spectra of bright continuum sources over 80% of the sky. This survey is expected to detect at least several hundred intervening 21-cm absorbers and will produce an H i-absorption-selected catalogue of galaxies rich in cool, star-forming gas, some of which may be concealed from optical surveys. Likewise, at least several hundred associated 21-cm absorbers are expected to be detected within the host galaxies of radio sources at $0.4 < z < 1.0$ , providing valuable kinematical information for models of gas accretion and jet-driven feedback in radio-loud active galactic nuclei. FLASH will also detect OH 18-cm absorbers in diffuse molecular gas, megamaser OH emission, radio recombination lines, and stacked H i emission.

Objectives:
The DSM-5 describes personality disorders (PDs) as emerging in early life and remaining continuous throughout the life-span. Yet case studies and expert opinion support the existence of late-onset PDs. Little is known about PDs in late life, and our instruments for assessing them are not well validated. Thus, the focus of this exploratory Delphi study was the late-onset PD, with special attention to the accuracy of the core criteria for the diagnosis.
Design:A Delphi study was designed to assess the presentation of PDs in late life. The Delphi consisted of three successive rounds of inquiry. Between rounds, the participants were provided with a summary of the panel’s responses.
Participants:A panel of 21 experts included published authors, researchers, and teachers from the USA, the UK, Australia, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Measurements:Researchers designed a survey that included an introduction, a demographic questionnaire, and five questions that varied in presentation and response format.
Results:Experts reached consensus that a variant of PD appears de novo in old age. The core features of inflexibility and pervasiveness may not pertain to late-onset PD. There was agreement that frequently occurring life events contribute selectively to the expression of late-onset PD, with the major ones being death of a spouse or partner and transition to a nursing or assisted-living facility.
Conclusions:Nearly all participants took the position that PD can present for the first time in old age and be clinically identifiable without having been so identified earlier in life.

Introduction:
How frequent and how clinically important are mood and behavioral symptoms among older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI)? Although these noncognitive behavioral symptoms (NCBS) are not represented in the diagnostic criteria for MCI, their clinical significance is increasingly recognized.
Methods:To address this question, the authors identified a cohort of consecutively evaluated patients from a psychiatric hospital's outpatient memory clinic. These patients' records contained both a clinical assessment and a standardized set of evaluations including the Mini-Mental State Exam, the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), and the Geriatric Depression Scale. Using a standardized chart-review approach, the presence of any NPI-screened symptom was identified and the frequencies of specific NPI-screened symptoms were calculated for the Memory Clinic MCI cohort and for amnestic and non-amnestic MCI subgroups.
Results:A total of 116 patient records were reviewed. Thirty-eight patients with MCI were identified. Twenty-two of these met criteria for amnestic MCI by Mayo Clinic criteria while 16 met criteria for non-amnestic MCI. At least one NPI-screened mood or behavioral symptom was present in 86.8% of these MCI patients. Depression/dysphoria (63.3%), apathy (60.5%), anxiety (47.4%), irritability (44.7%), and nighttime behaviors (42.1%) were the most frequent. While depression/dysphoria was distributed similarly between amnestic and non-amnestic subgroups, apathy was significantly more frequently associated with the amnestic subtype of MCI, and nighttime behaviors were more frequently associated with the non-amnestic subtype.
Conclusion:Although the presence of NCBS is not required for a diagnosis of MCI, these symptoms are frequently present and constitute an important source of morbidity. Apathy and depression may be difficult to differentiate, but targeted treatment of depression may fail to address apathy. Recognizing the limitations of this preliminary study, the authors suggest that apathy may be more characteristic of amnestic MCI while nighttime behaviors may be more characteristic of non-amnestic MCI.

Over 20 years ago, D. S. Falconer and others launched an important avenue of research into the quantitative of body size growth in mice. This study continues in that tradition by locating quantitative trait loci (QTLs) responsible for murine growth, such as age-specific weights and growth periods, and examining the genetic architecture for body weight. We identified a large number of potential QTLs in an earlier F2 intercross (Intercross I) of the SM/J and LG/J inbred mouse strains. Many of these QTLs are replicated in a second F2 intercross (Intercross II) between the same two strains. These replicated regions provide candidate regions for future fine-mapping studies. We also examined body size and growth QTLs using the combined data set from these two intercrosses, resulting in 96 microsatellite markers being scored for 1045 individuals. An examination of the genetic architecture for age-specific weight and growth periods resulted in locating 20 separate QTLs, which were mainly additive in nature, although dominance was found to affect early growth and body size. QTLs affecting early and late growth were generally distinct, mapping to separate chromosome locations. This QTL pattern indicates largely separate genetic and physiological systems for early and later murine growth, as Falconer suggested. We also found sex-specific QTLs for body size with implications for the evolution of sexual dimorphism.
