From 2014 to 2020, we compiled radiocarbon ages from the lower 48 states, creating a database of more than 100,000 archaeological, geological, and paleontological ages that will be freely available to researchers through the Canadian Archaeological Radiocarbon Database. Here, we discuss the process used to compile ages, general characteristics of the database, and lessons learned from this exercise in “big data” compilation.

Introduction:
The Pinnacle3 Auto-Planning (AP) package is an automated inverse planning tool employing a multi-sequence optimisation algorithm. The nature of the optimisation aims to improve the overall quality of radiotherapy plans but at the same time may produce higher modulation, increasing plan complexity and challenging linear accelerator delivery capability.
Methods and materials:Thirty patients previously treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) to the prostate with or without pelvic lymph node irradiation were replanned with locally developed AP techniques for step-and-shoot IMRT (AP-IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (AP-VMAT). Each case was also planned with VMAT using conventional inverse planning. The patient cohort was separated into two groups, those with a single primary target volume (PTV) and those with dual PTVs of differing prescription dose levels. Plan complexity was assessed using the modulation complexity score.
Results:Plans produced with AP provided equivalent or better dose coverage to target volumes whilst effectively reducing organ at risk (OAR) doses. For IMRT plans, the use of AP resulted in a mean reduction in bladder V50Gy by 4·2 and 4·7 % (p ≤ 0·01) and V40Gy by 4·8 and 11·3 % (p < 0·01) in the single and dual dose level cohorts, respectively. For the rectum, V70Gy, V60Gy and V40Gy were all reduced in the dual dose level AP-VMAT plans by an average of 2·0, 2·7 and 7·3 % (p < 0·01), respectively. A small increase in plan complexity was observed only in dual dose level AP plans.
Findings:The automated nature of AP led to high quality treatment plans with improvement in OAR sparing and minimised the variation in achievable dose planning metrics when compared to the conventional inverse planning approach.

Introduction:
There are little data about renal follow-up of neonates after cardiovascular surgery and no guidelines for long-term renal follow-up. Our objectives were to assess renal function follow-up practice after neonatal cardiac surgery, evaluate factors that predict follow-up serum creatinine measurements including acute kidney injury following surgery, and evaluate the estimated glomerular filtration rate during follow-up using routinely collected laboratory values.
Methods:Two-centre retrospective cohort study of children 5–7 years of age with a history of neonatal cardiac surgery. Univariable and multivariable analyses were performed to determine factors associated with post-discharge creatinine measurements. Glomerular filtration rate was estimated for each creatinine using a height-independent equation.
Results:Seventeen of 55 children (30%) did not have any creatinine measured following discharge after surgery until the end of study follow-up, which occurred at a median time of 6 years after discharge. Of the 38 children who had the kidney function checked, 15 (40%) had all of their creatinine drawn only in the context of a hospitalisation or emergency department visit. Acute kidney injury following surgery did not predict the presence of follow-up creatinine measurements.
Conclusions:A large proportion of neonates undergoing congenital heart repair did not have a follow-up creatinine measured in the first years following surgery. In those that did have a creatinine measured, there did not appear to be any identified pattern of follow-up. A follow-up system for children who are discharged from cardiac surgery is needed to identify children with or at risk of chronic kidney disease.

Archaeologists have long subjected Clovis megafauna kill/scavenge sites to the highest level of scrutiny. In 1987, a Columbian mammoth (Mammuthus columbi) was found in spatial association with a small artifact assemblage in Converse County, Wyoming. However, due to the small tool assemblage, limited nature of the excavations, and questions about the security of the association between the artifacts and mammoth remains, the site was never included in summaries of human-killed/scavenged megafauna in North America. Here we present the results of four field seasons of new excavations at the La Prele Mammoth site that confirm the presence of an associated cultural occupation based on geologic context, artifact attributes, spatial distributions, protein residue analysis, and lithic microwear analysis. This new work identified a more extensive cultural occupation including the presence of multiple discrete artifact clusters in close proximity to the mammoth bone bed. This study confirms the presence of a second Clovis mammoth kill/scavenge site in Wyoming and shows the value in revisiting proposed terminal Pleistocene kill/scavenge sites.
