Cambridge achieves international environmental standard

Our sustainability efforts have received a boost, with news that the systems underpinning the environmental performance of our UK operations have been certified to an international best practice standard.

Cambridge University Press & Assessment achieves international environmental standard

Cambridge University Press & Assessment has received ISO14001 certification following an external audit in May. In their report, the auditors noted that our organisation ‘continues to drive and push forward improvements towards their overall environmental strategy, and has been promoting its strategy internally to maintain momentum and support’.

Peter Lumb, Property Environment Manager, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been successfully re-certified to ISO14001. This is deserved recognition for the efforts of the many Cambridge University Press & Assessment staff who have been working hard to build environmental consciousness across the organisation.”

To be certified to ISO14001 standard – which meets international best practice – an organisation has to prove it has considered its impact on the environment, has plans, leadership and sufficient resources in place to improve its environmental performance, and that it monitors and documents its performance to ensure it can continually improve.

Peter added: “There is always more we can do to improve our environmental performance, as well as to involve more of our locations and operations around the world, but this certification shows we’re making great progress. It’s a great reflection of the work of so many staff across the new merged organisation to put environmental thinking at the core of what we do.”
