Cambridge wins at UK's Business Culture Awards

The bringing together of Cambridge University Press & Assessment has won Best Integration and Merger Initiative at this year’s Business Culture Awards in the UK.

The award is open to organisations that have achieved a merger or acquisition and made an outstanding impact on the business culture, creating a sense of unity in the newly-formed organisation.

To win, we had to demonstrate how the integration of Cambridge University Press and Cambridge Assessment had seen us come together at a cultural level, striking a balance between the pre-existing business cultures in the creation of the new one. We also needed to show how we had engaged our stakeholders and delivered business results.

Just two months after celebrating our first year as Cambridge University Press & Assessment, we were praised for presenting a well-defined change management programme with a ‘positive and cohesive impact’ on our organisational culture.

Chief People Officer, Janet Scotcher, was on the team attending the awards. She said: “It’s brilliant to know everyone’s hard work over the past two years of integration has paid off and that we’re now recognised as experts in this field; I want to say a huge thank you and well done to everyone who has been on that journey.

“The total commitment shown by our people during really challenging circumstances confirms we’re the best in class. I’m equally thrilled that we’ve been recognised in the CSR and Sustainability category and look forward seeing how our innovations in this area help improve the world for our business, our people and our customers.”

The nationally recognised awards ceremony took place in London on Wednesday evening (5 October 2022), where we were also ‘highly commended’ in the Best CSR and Corporate Sustainability category.

This was in recognition of our work with Form the Future and Speakers for Schools, to provide virtual work experience for students during the pandemic.

Heidi Mulvey, Head of Community Engagement, also attended the event. She said: “Work experience is one of the most powerful ways we can support young people. The pandemic made it much harder for students to get that experience, so it was fantastic that we could partner with Form the Future and Speakers for Schools, to reach more than 500 people, many of them in places where it would have been hard to connect with them in person.

“Virtual work experience removed the barriers of geography and accessibility that can stop young people from considering publishing and assessment as a career. It also showed there are creative ways to support young people, wherever they are, when the usual routes are blocked. We learned a lot and will continue to offer virtual work experience alongside in-person opportunities.”
