Summary

In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate O Lord, grant ease and banish hardship!

Praise be to God, possessor of might, sublimity, light and splendor, of benefits and blessings, who lightened the darkness with the pearls of his light, clothed our inmost being with the radiance of his glory, and adorned our hearts with the resplendence of his beauty. There and at that time appeared the gleam of his lofty might, the splendor of his sublime glory, the radiance of his dazzling loveliness, and the brilliance of his effulgent beauty, and he aroused his lovers, drunk, inebriated, and delirious in him, enraptured, dallying, and flirtatious. And they rejoiced in him by him, and they gave praise to him through him, and they fled from him to him. And at that time he made them witnesses to himself, guides to his servants, and succor to his lands, by the radiance of his glory, the splendor of his beauty, the signs of his favor, and the lights of his love that he had displayed in them. And the minds of men were baffled when they saw them, and their eyes were dazzled when their proofs appeared, and the animals were bewildered at the comeliness of their attributes.

And glory be to our glorious Lord, the Visible and the Invisible, who has no beginning and no end, so manifest as to make proof unnecessary and so hidden that no way to him can be found. We ask thee, O God, [2] to make our hearts vessels of love for thee, our spirits seats of closeness to thee, our inner selves abodes of fear of thee, our minds agents of thy wisdom, and our limbs instruments of thy [might]; for we owe this to thee.

And we ask thee to bless our lord Muhammad, the beloved, elect, and noble, who attained the goal, faithful through thick and thin, Muḥammadthy servant and prophet, the noblest emissary, the most truthful speaker, and the most successful intercessor, to bless his most excellent family, his righteous Companions, and his chaste wives, and to grant them all peace.
