14 A number of the histories of the Falkland Islands refer to Rivero and the others being confined in Newgate Prison, but there is no evidence of this in the prison records for the appropriate weeks and no indication in the official correspondence that they were kept anywhere other than the guardship off Sheerness. Cf. Cawkell, M. et al. , The Falkland Islands (London, 1960), p. 50. Graham-Yooll, A., in his generally excellent book The forgotten colony (London, 1981), p. 154, says that Rivero was put on trial, but that the court ruled that it had no jurisdiction. No source is given for this.
