As part of its editorial commitment to strengthen dialogue and engagement with the global IR community, the Review of International Studies will be holding a workshop at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa around the theme of Populism in IR on the 11th – 12th September 2018.

We invite abstracts of 500 words on the theme from scholars all over the world that address some of the following questions:

1. How can IR theory make sense of populist trends? / What can IR theory tell us about populism?

2. How can experiences of populism in both the Global South and the Global North inform and improve our understanding of populism in IR?

3. How are developments in media and technology affecting and impacting local and global political movements?  

Our principal aim is for a dialogue between scholars from different parts of the world on the issue of Populism. However we also envisage publishing a Special Issue of the Review of International Studies off the back of the workshop and will therefore ask for full papers ahead of the workshop in September.

We have some funds available to support scholars from a) low and middle income countries and b) early career researchers. If you require financial assistance to attend, please state that you wish to be considered on account of criteria a) or b) when submitting your abstract.
