Themed Issue 2023 Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia
BJPsych 2023 Themed Issue
Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Negative symptoms are a core aspect of schizophrenia, seen in 50– 60% of patients and strongly related to impaired function. Despite their relevance, negative symptoms are often overshadowed by positive symptoms, and they remain poorly understood and an unmet need. In the last decade there has been a rebirth of interest in these symptoms, with new conceptual ideas, novel measurement tools, and how to conduct research. This is a good time to bring together perspectives on these issues, to facilitate progress in the treatment and better understanding of these problems.
