Summary

In April 2019, the digitised version of the English Dialect Dictionary (EDD Online) was launched in its new version 3.0, which includes the 179 pages of the Supplement, added by Joseph Wright in the last of the six volumes. According to the interface of this all-inclusive version of EDD Online, the Dictionary, on its 4,600-odd pages, comprises exactly 79,598 headwords, 16,452 compounds, 22,719 combinations, 15,060 phrases, 53,972 variants, as well as references to 202 dialectal areas, 21 parts of speech and 60 etymologically cognate languages. Moreover, it allows for the retrieval of some 4,900 sources and of eight types of usage labels, with overall 150 labels. Needless to add that the Dictionary comprises well over 100,000 defining terms and two or three times as many words in the citations, attesting to the points made in the entries.
