Aim:
The aim of this scoping review is to explore the evidence by which community service providers have integrated reablement models of staff training and client assessment into practice.
Background:The concept of reablement, which has emerged during the last two decades globally, has recently been defined by health experts from 11 countries through a Delphi study. Reablement is seen as a way to support integrated frameworks that achieve person-centred, long-term care and assistance across community settings. International research indicates there is some evidence of developing models of reablement that include staff training and individual components of client assessment. However, evidence of integrating reablement into interdisciplinary practice continues to be sparse.
Methods:The review adopted the preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) approach. Inclusion criteria for the review related to community care, primary care, long-term care, and residential care. Populations of interest included service providers, interdisciplinary staff, trainers, and assessors.
Results:A total of 11 papers were reviewed. The studies varied in their approach to reablement training and client assessment frameworks. Three studies included assessment of staff well-being. All included evidence-based, person-centred components that can be integrated across health care settings. Single disciplinary approaches were used in all studies and some included training evaluation.
Conclusion:This review has identified that currently reablement models are not yet embedded as frameworks for practice by community service providers in primary health care settings. Different programmes of training and assessment are being designed based on single disciplinary approaches and the context in which they are delivered. Further developmental work is required to integrate the components of discipline-specific training programmes within interdisciplinary frameworks. This will achieve not only an integrated framework for delivery across settings but also further the success of ‘ageing in place’ policy.

Hydrogen lithography has been used to template phosphine-based surface chemistry to fabricate atomic-scale devices, a process we abbreviate as atomic precision advanced manufacturing (APAM). Here, we use mid-infrared variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (IR-VASE) to characterize single-nanometer thickness phosphorus dopant layers (δ-layers) in silicon made using APAM compatible processes. A large Drude response is directly attributable to the δ-layer and can be used for nondestructive monitoring of the condition of the APAM layer when integrating additional processing steps. The carrier density and mobility extracted from our room temperature IR-VASE measurements are consistent with cryogenic magneto-transport measurements, showing that APAM δ-layers function at room temperature. Finally, the permittivity extracted from these measurements shows that the doping in the APAM δ-layers is so large that their low-frequency in-plane response is reminiscent of a silicide. However, there is no indication of a plasma resonance, likely due to reduced dimensionality and/or low scattering lifetime.

Backscattered electron microscopy provides gray-level contrast resulting from variations in atomic composition. Through the use of reference materials, quantitative backscattered electron (qBSE) imaging can be used to measure the mineral content of mineralized tissues at submicron resolution. We have developed novel tunable reference materials that can be adjusted for analysis of an individual tissue or a wide range of tissues with variable atomic density. As an alternative to conventional metallic reference materials, these amorphous materials maintain long-term stability and possess no long-range order that may induce channeling contrast. Using these reference materials, we characterized the mineral content of a broad range of mineralized tissues from immature mouse femur to whale bulla. Mineral volume fraction correlated to more traditional measurements of mineral content with microcomputed tomography and ashing techniques. Further, we demonstrate the advantage of location-matched measurements of nanomechanical properties and qBSE mineral content.

New World parrots are declining throughout their range. Blue and Gold Macaw Ara ararauna was extirpated from the island of Trinidad in the late 1960s through anthropogenic processes. The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is assisting the Wildlife Section of the Forestry Division, Trinidad on a mission to restore the species into its historical range within the Bush-Bush Sanctuary in the Nariva Swamp. The Sanctuary has been protected by the government of Trinidad and is the home of the endangered Red-bellied Macaw Ara manilata and West Indian Manatee Trichechus manatus. Zoo and Wildlife personnel participated in three separate releases, beginning in December 1999 through to March 2000. The initial release consisted of an identical sex group of macaws followed by two additional releases of pairs/groups of birds. Of 18 Blue and Gold Macaws, 14 were released into the Nariva Swamp and are currently being monitored by the Wildlife Section, Zoo personnel and surrounding community. Translocation of wild populations of parrots has proven to be a viable solution to restocking wild populations that have been regionally extirpated.

The innovative Combustion Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD) process is a non-vacuum technique that is being investigated to enable next generation products in several application areas including high-temperature superconductors (HTS). In combination with the Rolling Assisted Biaxially Textured Substrate (RABiTS) technology, the CCVD process has significant promise to provide low-cost, high-quality lengths of YBCO coated conductor. The CCVD technology has been used to deposit both buffer layer coatings as well as YBCO superconducting layers. A buffer layer architecture of strontium titanate and ceria have been deposited by CCVD on textured nickel substrates and optimized to appropriate thicknesses and microstructures to provide templates for growing PLD YBCO with high critical current density values. The CCVD buffer layers have been scaled to meter plus lengths with good epitaxial uniformity along the length. A short sample cut from one of the lengths enabled high critical current density PLD YBCO. Films of CCVD YBCO superconductors have been grown on single crystal substrates with critical current densities over 1 MA/cm2. Work is currently in progress to combine both the buffer layer and superconductor technologies to produce high-quality coupons of HTS tape made entirely by the non-vacuum CCVD process.

The enormous technological potential of high-temperature superconductors (HTS) was realized immediately following their discovery in 1986, yet these materials largely remain laboratory curiosities as scientists struggle to scale from coupons to long lengths of practical coated conductor. Although both vacuum and non-vacuum processes are being investigated for commercial production, low-throughput vacuum techniques were the first to succeed in producing the buffer and superconducting layers necessary for superconducting tape with high critical currents. However, vacuum processes are not only expensive but impractical when addressing the needs for rapid production of kilometer lengths of wire. The innovative Combustion Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD) method used with the Rolling Assisted Biaxially Textured Substrates (RABiTS™) technology has shown significant promise in fabricating the multi-layer structures necessary for successful HTS tape while overcoming many of the shortcomings of traditional vacuum techniques. The key advantage of the CCVD technology is its ability to deposit high quality thin films in the open atmosphere using inexpensive precursor chemicals in solution. As a result, continuous, production-line manufacturing is possible with significantly reduced capital requirements and operating costs when compared to competing vacuum-based technologies. The current status of development for production of long lengths of high-temperature superconductors using CCVD will be discussed.
