Background
Children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are a highly medicated group. Few studies have examined the neuropsychiatric profile and patterns of psychotropic medication use among adults with ASD.
AimsTo describe and compare the neuropsychiatric profile and psychotropic medication use in a cohort of adults with ASD and non-autistic controls.
MethodBaseline data from a survey-based, longitudinal study of adults with ASD in Australia. Participants were 188 adults with ASD and 115 controls aged 25–80 years.
ResultsASD was associated with increased odds of psychotropic medication use even when controlling for the presence of any neurological or psychiatric disorder. There were no corresponding indications for 14.4% of psychotropic medications prescribed to adults with ASD.
ConclusionsThis study found substantial psychotropic prescribing for adults with ASD. Patterns of psychotropic medication use may reflect prescribing for behavioural indications despite limited evidence to support this practice.

Notoedric mange, caused by obligately parasitic sarcoptiform Notoedres mites, is associated with potentially fatal dermatitis with secondary systemic disease in small mammals, felids and procyonids among others, as well as an occasional zoonosis. We describe clinical spectra in non-chiropteran hosts, review risk factors and summarize ecological and epidemiological studies. The genus is disproportionately represented on rodents. Disease in felids and procyonids ranges from very mild to death. Knowledge of the geographical distribution of the mites is highly inadequate, with focal hot spots known for Notoedres cati in domestic cats and bobcats. Predisposing genetic and immunological factors are not known, except that co-infection with other parasites and anticoagulant rodenticide toxicoses may contribute to severe disease. Treatment of individual animals is typically successful with macrocytic lactones such as selamectin, but herd or wildlife population treatment has not been undertaken. Transmission requires close contact and typically is within a host species. Notoedric mange can kill half all individuals in a population and regulate host population below non-diseased density for decades, consistent with frequency-dependent transmission or spillover from other hosts. Epidemics are increasingly identified in various hosts, suggesting global change in suitable environmental conditions or increased reporting bias.

Summary
ABSTRACT
The Mars Pathfinder Alpha Proton X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) was utilized to determine the major and minor elemental abundances of rocks and soils at the 1997 landing site in Ares Vallis. The determined abundances suggest that: (1) the rocks are covered with various amounts of soil; (2) the Soil-Free Rock (SFR) chemistry is similar to that of an evolved SNC-like (SNC – Shergottite, Nakhlite, and Chassignite) igneous tholeiitic basalt-andesite to andesite that is minimally altered (possibly similar to Type 2 TES material); (3) the carbon content is below detection limits for all samples, implying < 5% as MgCO3 (Brückner et al., 1999); (4) the α-mode oxygen abundance indicates that mineral-bound water, above the value for igneous rocks, is present in some rocks and is therefore indicative of some nonigneous alteration and therefore possibly rock-rinds that obscure the petrology of the SFR; and (5) the Pathfinder soils are similar to the Viking fines and may be composed of mafic igneous material like the SNC meteorites and of volatiles deposited from volcanic emissions, as previously suggested by Clark (1993) for the Viking soils.

The electromigration performance of samples fabricated with new Al via-filling techniques are studied and compared. The new techniques are (1) Hot Al mono-chamber and (2) CVD/PVD Al. Their electromigration performances are assessed over a range of stress conditions and compared with that of a standard W- etchback technique.
