In the United States, if everyone switched to an all-electric Tesla, annual electricity consumption would double. In most areas, electricity is generated by combustion of fossil fuels. In the absence of CO2 recovery systems in these power plants, electric cars have a larger carbon footprint than those powered by gasoline. Can we change this by transitioning to renewable energy?
