In 2013, 19,775 people were investigated for stalking. Of those nearly twenty thousand people, however, only a small fraction were convicted. This Article explores the methods employed under German law in striving to combat stalking (Nachstellung), the problems arising the refrom, and the most recent changes in stalking legislation. While numbers can illustrate the flaws of a seemingly malfunctioning system easily, identifying the causes and eradicating them is a more complex matter.

This article is concerned with the longing for home of British soldiers during the First World War. What, it asks, can such longings reveal about the psychological impact of trench warfare? Historians have differed in the significance that they ascribe to domestic attachments. Some argue that a ‘cultural chasm’ developed between the fronts, producing anger and disillusionment among soldiers which would surface fully fledged after the war, while others assert the continuing vitality of the links with home. Evidence for both these perceptions can be found in the letters written by British soldiers to their families. The functions of nostalgia could range from reassurance or momentary relief from boredom and impersonal army routines, through flight from intolerable anxiety, to survival through the power of love. Although animated by solitude, nostalgia provided a means of communication with loved ones. Its emotional tones varied according to the soldier's age and the nature of his attachments to home. The young soldier's reminiscences of home conveyed, not just the comforting past, but the hateful present. Nostalgia, being rooted in early memories of care, could be a potent vehicle for arousing the anxieties of loved ones, especially mothers. Among married men, the desire to return to wives and children could provide a powerful motivation for survival. This analysis suggests a different and more varied account of the genesis of the ‘disillusionment story’ of the war than is put forward in some recent studies. Among men of the ‘war generation’ particularly, disillusionment was not only a post-war construction, an artefact of cultural memory, but a powerful legacy of the emotional experience of the war itself.

Background: Increasing attention has been given to subtyping OCD with respect to different clinical profiles, response to drug treatments, comorbidity and age of onset. There are a number of studies looking at predictors of treatment outcome in OCD, but so far not for OCD subtypes. Method: Prediction of outcome after cognitive-behavioural therapy was evaluated in 63 inpatients with early obsessive-compulsive disorder (EOCD ≤ 12 years of age) and 191 patients with late obsessive-compulsive disorder (LOCD > 15 years of age). Results: For EOCD patients factors predicting a good outcome included high motivation and high initial Y-BOCS scores. Factors associated with a bad outcome were higher age at assessment, a longer duration of psychiatric inpatient treatment before assessment and a low level of social functioning (BSS). For LOCD patients living in a stable relationship, high motivation and completing treatment predicted a favourable therapy outcome, while a low level of psychological functioning (BSS) and a longer duration of inpatient psychiatric treatment before assessment were associated with an undesirable therapy outcome. Conclusions: Subtyping OCD patients according to age of onset seems to be a promising avenue towards improving and developing more specified treatment programs.

Since 1998, Dow has been actively developing and applying high throughput research (HTR) methodologies to increase the speed to market and the probability of successful product introductions. Initially Dow implemented this approach in the area of homogeneous catalysis. Based upon the success in this area, high throughput methods have been expanded into other research areas such as waterborne coatings. Paint formulations offer an excellent opportunity to use the strengths of high throughput research to understand how complex interactions between many components affect final properties. High throughput tools enable the rapid and reproducible development of paints, preparation of coating on substrates, and evaluation of performance. Rapid formulation and testing allows the interactions between formulation variables to be investigated in much more depth and breadth than has been possible in the past. Finally, statistical anaylsis and data mining tools can be used to optimize a desired balance of properties within customer defined constraints. This paper presents an example of using Dow's HTR coatings workflow to improve properties for low VOC / low odor architectural coatings.

This paper describes a method of radiofrequency ablation of adenoid tissue using a coblator, comparing it with conventional and other newer methods of adenoidectomy. Its chief advantages are that it produces a bloodless field, precision of tissue removal and leads to less damage to surrounding tissues.

A manuscript fragment containing part of ch. 47 of Bede's De Temporum Ratione has recently been identified in the State Papers Supplementary in the Public Record Office, Chancery Lane (London), where it has the reference SP 46/125, fol. 302 (see pl. I).1 It was added to the volume in which it is now to be found in June 1925, on the authority of C. S. B. Buckland, an Assistant Keeper of the Public Records, but no information appears to have survived about its source.
