Summary

A FOUND POEM BASED ON “THE WRECK OF THE DEUTSCHLAND

Bound bones and veins, I did say yes.

Down with a horror, laced with fire!

You were dovewinged, to flash

from the flame to the flame.

I am soft, but steady as water in a well,

since mystery must be stressed. I greet

days, not out of bliss, but in dense sweat—

hard. Mouthed? Never ask:

wring malice, tongue love.

Stealing mercy, some rail and dream.

Flesh within sight, forget the sour,

tell souls the blessing of the sky, the sea, deeps to ride.

Carved with cares, hope shone and shook, stirred to save.

God's cold night roared, touched bone, mother of heart.

The rash call of the storm's brawling, beast of the dawn,

sucked love, light, sight. The word, time-taken, at rest.

Comfort hovers: jay-blue height, moth-soft Milky Way, tenderer.

Apart, measure sight, look at it.

The extremity, living and dead, triumph, doom:

single eye!

Present and past, blast light without stain!

Pity the comfortless,

tides fall and recurb—death hides.

The listener glides the vein, the last mark.

Not dazzle nor dark, but reclaiming lightning at our door.

Remember, reign rolls pride, hearts fire thoughts.
