Examination of Seafood Intake Using Online 24hr Recall Tool for Use in Risk Assessment Analysis

Introduction
Healthy eating recommendations advise eating two portions of fish per week. Although seafood consumption has doubled globally over the last 50 years there is currently very little data on seafood consumption in Ireland. It is important to know what is being consumed by a population for nutritional and food safety purposes. The aim of this study is to collect reported dietary intake data from Irish seafood consumers, using an online dietary intake assessment tool, to determine habitual intakes of seafood for use in risk assessment.
Materials and MethodsFoodbook24 is a self-administered, online 24hr recall tool developed for the purpose of nutritional surveillance in Ireland. For the purpose of this study it was further developed to include a detailed list of seafood regularly consumed in Ireland. Foods were selected using established food databases (Langual, FoodEx2 and BIM Seafood Handbook). Food composition was determined using McCance and Widdowson (7th Ed.) and portion sizes were based on NANS, published portion size books and recipes. Participants will be recruited using commonly used approaches; radio adverts & face-to-face recruitment. Seafood consumers (n = 1000), balanced for gender, age and urban/rural location, will be targeted. Participants will complete 2×24hr recalls, over 2 weeks, and complete an accompanying food frequency questionnaire. Demographic and lifestyle data will also be collected.
ResultsIn the development of the tool, a total of 246 foods were added to Foodbook24, including 38 species of fish, with approximately 2–25 fish dishes for each fish. The composition of 156 foods were a direct match to McCance and Widdowson, 36 were similar and 24 used a combination of foods. For fish meals and recipes, 17 meals had a direct match in McCance and Widdowson and 10 were obtained using the average of 3 recipes. Foodbook24 contained a large proportion (92%) of the relevant portion sizes, others came from relevant books and recipes.
DiscussionData collection is currently ongoing, but it is expected that the study will represent a significant step forward in public health policy contribution by characterising the likelihood of illness within a population on an annual basis. Furthermore, it will demonstrate the use of novel intake assessment technologies for fast and cost-effective collection of data for risk assessment purposes, reducing the time and cost required for data collection.

Introduction:
Little is known about the factors which influence seafood consumption in Irish adults at present. This systematic review will serve the purpose of reviewing published literature examining influences on seafood consumption to provide a basis for a larger project being carried out in UCD - the Seafood Consumption and Risk Exposure Study (SCaRES) - examination of seafood consumption in the Irish population. This project aims to generate food consumption data, on seafood, consumers to improve the characterisation of the risk from exposure to biotoxins and other contaminants from consuming shellfish. This approach will represent a significant step forward in terms of public health policy contribution by being able to characterise the likelihood of illness in a population or population sub-group on an annual basis.
Materials and Methods:Data sources PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched for articles published between January 2008 and January 2018 investigating the characteristics of seafood consumers. Search terms include the following: factors OR influences OR determinants OR indicators AND fish OR seafood OR shellfish OR marine products AND diet OR dietary intake OR intake OR consumption. Articles, in English which investigated factors influencing seafood/fish consumption in adults (18 + ) were included.
Results:A total of 3964 unique articles were found, after duplicates (n = 1537) were removed. Following this, a further 3531 articles were excluded based on title and abstract. The remaining articles (n = 433) were screened based on inclusion criteria. After the initial systematic search, 149 papers met the inclusion criteria. Preliminary analysis to date demonstrated the following; seafood consumers are more likely to have higher educational attainment (n = 43 article), they are more likely to be of older age (n = 29 articles), 21 articles reported that they are less likely to be smokers, whilst n = 17, found that they are more likely to be physically active, with n = 20 reporting they are more likely to have a healthier overall diet and n = 14 reporting that they are more likely to have a higher household income. Results were mixed with respect to BMI.
Discussion:The included studies have found that seafood consumers are more likely to have higher educational attainment, be of older age, have lower tobacco use, be physically active, have a higher fruit and vegetable intake and have a higher household income. Full analysis is ongoing.

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: Background: Delirium is a well described form of acute brain organ dysfunction characterized by decreased or increased movement, changes in attention and concentration as well as perceptual disturbances (i.e., hallucinations) and delusions. Catatonia, a neuropsychiatric syndrome traditionally described in patients with severe psychiatric illness, can present as phenotypically similar to delirium and is characterized by increased, decreased and/or abnormal movements, staring, rigidity, and mutism. Delirium and catatonia can co-occur in the setting of medical illness, but no studies have explored this relationship by age. Our objective was to assess whether advancing age and the presence of catatonia are associated with delirium. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Methods: We prospectively enrolled critically ill patients at a single institution who were on a ventilator or in shock and evaluated them daily for delirium using the Confusion Assessment for the ICU and for catatonia using the Bush Francis Catatonia Rating Scale. Measures of association (OR) were assessed with a simple logistic regression model with catatonia as the independent variable and delirium as the dependent variable. Effect measure modification by age was assessed using a Likelihood ratio test. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Results: We enrolled 136 medical and surgical critically ill patients with 452 matched (concomitant) delirium and catatonia assessments. Median age was 59 years (IQR: 52–68). In our cohort of 136 patients, 58 patients (43%) had delirium only, 4 (3%) had catatonia only, 42 (31%) had both delirium and catatonia, and 32 (24%) had neither. Age was significantly associated with prevalent delirium (i.e., increasing age associated with decreased risk for delirium) (p=0.04) after adjusting for catatonia severity. Catatonia was significantly associated with prevalent delirium (p<0.0001) after adjusting for age. Peak delirium risk was for patients aged 55 years with 3 or more catatonic signs, who had 53.4 times the odds of delirium (95% CI: 16.06, 176.75) than those with no catatonic signs. Patients 70 years and older with 3 or more catatonia features had half this risk. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: Conclusions: Catatonia is significantly associated with prevalent delirium even after controlling for age. These data support an inverted U-shape risk of delirium after adjusting for catatonia. This relationship and its clinical ramifications need to be examined in a larger sample, including patients with dementia. Additionally, we need to assess which acute brain syndrome (delirium or catatonia) develops first.
Detection of human taeniases in Tibetan endemic areas, China

Detection of taeniasis carriers of Taenia solium is essential for control of cysticercosis in humans and pigs. In the current study, we assessed the positive detection rate of a self-detection tool, stool microscopy with direct smear and coproPCR for taeniasis carriers in endemic Tibetan areas of northwest Sichuan. The self-detection tool through questioning about a history of proglottid expulsion within the previous one year showed an overall positive detection rate of more than 80% for Taenia saginata, T. solium and T. asiatica. The positive detection rate was similar for T. saginata and T. solium. In 132 taeniid tapeworm carriers, 68 (51·5%) were detected by microscopy and 92 (69·7%) were diagnosed by coproPCR. A combination of microscopy and coproPCR increased the positive detection rate to 77·3%. There remained 10 cases (7·6%) coproPCR negative but microscopy positive. Due to the high cost and complicated process, coproPCR is required for the identification of Taenia species only when necessary, though it had a significant higher positive detection rate than microscopy. Combined use of self-detection and stool microscopy are recommended in community-based mass screening for taeniases in this Tibetan area or in other situation-similar endemic regions.

From continental to regional scales, the zoonosis alveolar echinococcosis (AE) (caused by Echinococcus multilocularis) forms discrete patches of endemicity within which transmission hotspots of much larger prevalence may occur. Since the late 80s, a number of hotspots have been identified in continental Asia, mostly in China, wherein the ecology of intermediate host communities has been described. This is the case in south Gansu, at the eastern border of the Tibetan plateau, in south Ningxia, in the western Tian Shan of Xinjiang, and in the Alay valley of south Kyrgyzstan. Here we present a comparative natural history and characteristics of transmission ecosystems or ecoscapes. On this basis, regional types of transmission and their ecological characteristics have been proposed in a general framework. Combining climatic, land cover and intermediate host species distribution data, we identified and mapped 4 spatially distinct types of transmission ecosystems typified by the presence of one of the following small mammal ‘flagship’ species: Ellobius tancrei, Ochotona curzoniae, Lasiopodomys brandtii or Eospalax fontanierii. Each transmission ecosystem had its own characteristics which can serve as a reference for further in-depth research in the transmission ecology of E. multilocularis. This approach may be used at fine spatial scales to characterize other poorly known transmission systems of the large Eurasian endemic zone, and help in consideration of surveillance systems and interventions.

Are CFOs’ Trades More Informative Than CEOs’ Trades?

We investigate whether trades made by chief financial officers (CFOs) reveal more information about future stock returns than those by chief executive officers (CEOs). We find that CFOs earn statistically and economically higher abnormal returns following their purchases of company shares than CEOs. During 1992–2002, CFOs earned an average 12-month excess return that is 5% higher than that by CEOs. The superior performance by CFOs occurs notwithstanding controls for risk factors and persists even after their trades are publicly disclosed. Further analysis shows that CFO purchases are associated with more positive future earnings surprises than CEO purchases, suggesting that CFOs incorporate better information about future earnings.

Summary
Introduction
Human activities have caused fundamental changes in relationships between predators and large herbivores in ecosystems of western North America. In particular, large predators, especially wolves (Canis lupus) and grizzly bears (Ursus arctos), have been eliminated from most of the region. Human developments, as well as agricultural and livestock grazing activities have altered or eliminated many migration routes and habitats of ungulates. Developments such as towns and paved areas have eliminated habitat. Alternatively, human modifications to the landscape, in some cases, have created new and more fertile habitats for ungulates. Habituated ungulates use lawns, golf courses, and agriculture fields that are rich in nutrients in many of the Rocky Mountain states and provinces (Thompson and Henderson 1998).
No magic formula exists for setting goals for the appropriate number of ungulates in a national park or in a more managed ecosystem. National Park Service policy calls for managing for natural processes within the parks, where high ungulate populations may be managed if the concentrations are due to human effects (National Park Service 2001; NPS-77). Unfortunately, most current-day park ecosystems are extensively altered by many human factors, such as the extirpation of large predators, abbreviated or lost migrations of ungulates, and concentrations of ungulates on artificially rich human habitats, such as restored agriculture sites (in many eastern and mid-western parks) or lawns and golf courses within or adjacent to the parks. Determining what constituted natural conditions and natural processes under these altered states can be difficult.

The one-dimensional 1×1 and 1×2 tunnel structures of manganese dioxides, pyrolusit(β-MnO2) and ramsdellite (R-MnO2), respectively, were chemically intercalated with LiI. Two 7Li resonances were observed in lithiated pyrolusite. One isotropic resonance arising at 110 ppm shows a short spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 3 ms) and was assigned to Li+ ions in the 1×1 tunnel structure. The other isotropic resonance arising at 4 ppm shows a long spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 100 ms) and was assigned to Li+ ions in diamagnetic local environments in the form of impurities such as Li2O or on the surface of the MnO2 particles. Three 7Li resonances were observed in lithiated ramsdellite at very different frequencies (600, 110 and 0 ppm). The resonance at 600 ppm, which is observed at low lithium intercalation levels, is assigned toLi+ ions coordinated to both Mn(III) and Mn(IV) ions in the 1×2 tunnels, while the resonanceat 110 ppm is due to Li+ ions coordinated to Mn(III) ions and appears at higher Li levels. The resonance at 0 ppm is associated with a long spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 100 ms) and is also assignedto Li+ ions in diamagnetic impurities.
Study of Fluoride Ion Motions in PbSnF4 and BaSnF4 Compounds With Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Solid State NMR Techniques

A combined approach, using solid state NMR and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, has been employed in this work to investigate fluoride-ion motion in the PbSnF4 family of anionic conductors, materials that contain double layers of Sn2+ and M2+ cations. 19F MAS NMR spectra of PbSnF4 and BaSnF4 show that the fluoride ions are mobile on the NMR timescale (10−4 s), even at room temperature. In the case of BaSnF4, two different groups of fluoride ions were observed, one group corresponding to fluorine atoms between the layers of Ba2+ cations, and the other set, corresponding to mobile fluoride ions undergoing exchange between sites in the Ba-Sn and Sn-Sn layers. The 119Sn NMR suggests a highly distorted Sn environment in these compounds, consistent with the presence of stereoactive Sn lone pairs. MD simulations, using the Polarizable Ion Model, have been carried out to probe the conduction mechanism. These simulations are able to reproduce elements of the structure such as the reduction in the occupancy of the fluorine ions between the Sn-Sn layers. Anisotropic conductivity, involving primarily motion in the M-Sn layers, is predicted, consistent with the NMR results. In the case of BaSnF4, no motion involving the fluoride ions in the Ba-Ba layers is observed on the simulation timescale (10−12 s) and a cyclic mechanism of fluoride-ion motion involving two types of fluoride ions in the Ba-Sn layers is proposed.

Our research on ternary / quaternary chalcogenides for thermoelectric applications has lead to the identification of new interesting compounds and better understanding of the chemistry and physical properties of complex chalcogenides. The chemical, geometric, electronic diversity and flexibility has been well demonstrated in BaBiSe3 and Sr4Bi6Se13 type compounds. This presents both a challenge and more opportunity in controlling and optimizing the thermoelectric properties of these complex chalcogenides, compared with elemental and binary compounds. The importance of multivalley band structure in thermoelectric materials is emphasized. Only compounds with high crystal symmetry have the possibility of having a large number of degenerate valleys in the conduction bands or peaks in the valence bands, respectively. However, most of the complex chalcogenides crystallize in low crystal symmetry. An Edisonian method of exploratory synthesis and characterization may be the working approach to find good thermoelectric materials with ZT higher than 4.

6Li MAS NMR spectra of lithium manganese oxides with differing manganese oxidation states (LiMn2O4, Li4Mn5O12, Li2Mn4O9, and Li2Mn2O4) are presented. Improved understanding of the lithium NMR spectra of these model compounds is used to interpret the local structure of the LixMn2O4 cathode materials following electrochemical Li+ deintercalation to various charging levels. In situ x-ray diffraction patterns of the same material during charging are also reported for comparison. Evidence for two-phase behavior for x < 0.4 (LixMn2O4) is seen by both NMR and diffraction.

There is a considerable amount of evidence for the dependence of microstructure and surface morphology of films obtained by conventional thermally activated chemical vapor deposition on mass transport phenomena. This paper addresses the simulation of the influence of conveclive-diffusivc transport phenomena as well as homogeneous reactions on the deposition profile of silicon films in the case of some characteristic topological effects. For that purpose, the Si-H chemical system including both homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions is used. The evolution of the deposition profile during vapor growth is simulated for various surface defects such as a step or a trench. The influence of basic processing parameters such as temperature or flowrate is discussed.
