Background:
We undertook a prospective study to investigate relationships between outcome measures of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow.
Methods:Thirty-one patients (mean age 52.6, range 20-80), with clinically and electrically verified ulnar neuropathy at the elbow, were seen independently by a neurosurgeon and a physiotherapist. All tests were administered to all patients on each visit. Data collected included measures of sensory (monofilament, two-point discrimination, vibration) and motor function (grip, key-pinch, muscle atrophy), pain (visual analogue scale (VAS)) and impact on lifestyle (Levine's questionnaires (function status score - FSS, symptom severity score - SSS)), disability of the arm, shoulder and hand module (DASH) and patient-specific measures (PSM). Parametric and non-parametric correlation and factor analysis were done.
Results:Outcome analysis was available for 63 patient visits, with follow-up obtained for 20 patients (mean 8.5 months). Lifestyle and pain instruments (FSS, SSS, DASH, PSM and VAS) all correlated well with each other (r> 0.6, p< .01). DASH was moderately to highly correlated to nine of the 11 measures. Some tests correlated poorly, for example, Semmes-Weinstein monofilament with other sensory measures and muscle atrophy with almost all measures. Factor analysis revealed that there are two principal factors, accounting for 77% of the variance. Factor 1 relates to impact on lifestyle and pain while Factor 2 relates to strength and function.
Discussion/Conclusions:Intraclass measures, particularly ones assessing lifestyle and pain instruments are strongly correlated. Factor analysis revealed two principal factors that account for the majority of the variance; future studies with a larger sample size are needed to validate this analysis.

The influence of fluid droplet properties on the droplet-on-demand jetting of a Newtonian model fluid (water–isopropanol–ethylene glycol ternary system) has been studied. The composition of the fluid was adjusted to investigate how the Ohnesorge number (
$\mathit{Oh}$) influences droplet formation (morphology and speed) by a microfabricated short-channel shear-mode piezoelectric transducer. The fluid space for satellite-free single droplet formation was indeed found to be bound by upper and lower
$\mathit{Oh}$ limits, but these shift approximately linearly with the piezo pulse voltage amplitude
${V}_{o} $, which has a stronger influence on jetting characteristics than pulse length. Therefore the jettable fluid space can be depicted on a
${V}_{o} {{\ndash}}\mathit{Oh}$ diagram. Satellite-free droplets of the model fluid can be jetted over a wide
$\mathit{Oh}$ range, at least 0.025 to 0.5 (corresponding to
$Z= {\mathit{Oh}}^{\ensuremath{-} 1} $ of 40 to 2), by adjusting
${V}_{o} $ appropriately. Air drag was found to dominate droplet flight, as may be expected. This can be accurately modelled to yield droplet formation time, which turned out to be
$20\text{{\ndash}} 30~\lrm{\ensuremath{\mu}} \mathrm{s} $ under a wide range of jetting conditions. The corresponding initial droplet speed was found to vary linearly with
${V}_{o} $, with a fluid-dependent threshold but a fluid-independent slope, and a minimum speed of about
$2~\mathrm{m} ~{\mathrm{s} }^{\ensuremath{-} 1} $. This suggests the existence of iso-velocity lines that run substantially parallel to the lower jetting boundary in the
${V}_{o} {{\ndash}}\mathit{Oh}$ diagram.

Nutrigenomics is the study of how constituents of the diet interact with genes, and their products, to alter phenotype and, conversely, how genes and their products metabolise these constituents into nutrients, antinutrients, and bioactive compounds. Results from molecular and genetic epidemiological studies indicate that dietary unbalance can alter gene–nutrient interactions in ways that increase the risk of developing chronic disease. The interplay of human genetic variation and environmental factors will make identifying causative genes and nutrients a formidable, but not intractable, challenge. We provide specific recommendations for how to best meet this challenge and discuss the need for new methodologies and the use of comprehensive analyses of nutrient–genotype interactions involving large and diverse populations. The objective of the present paper is to stimulate discourse and collaboration among nutrigenomic researchers and stakeholders, a process that will lead to an increase in global health and wellness by reducing health disparities in developed and developing countries.

Summary
THE KOREAN LANGUAGE
Korean is spoken on the Korean peninsula as the sole native language and overseas as a second or foreign language. The current population of South Korea is over 45 million and that of North Korea around 23 million. Some 5.6 million Koreans reside outside the Korean peninsula. The major countries with a significant Korean population are China (2 million), the United States (2 million), Japan (700,000), and the former Soviet Union (500,000). Due to constant immigration, Koreans in the United States have become the fastest-growing segment of the overseas Korean population.
GENETIC AFFILIATION
There is no denying that Korean and Japanese are sister languages, although they are not mutually intelligible and their relationship is much more distant than that between, say, English and French. A sizeable number of cognates, partially attested sound correspondences, and many uniquely shared grammatical properties support the existence of a genetic relationship. The common origin of Korean and Japanese has been proposed by a number of scholars since Arai Hakuseki (1657–1725), a Tokugawa Confucian, in 1717, and Fujii Sadamoto (?1732–1797), a pioneer of modern archaeology in Japan, in 1781, first brought up the issue. Samuel Martin systematically compares 320 sets of seeming cognates in Korean (K) and Japanese (J).
The grammatical similarities between Korean and Japanese are conspicuous. Both are typical subject-object-verb (SOV) word-order languages.

Summary
Introduction
Arrow's (1953) classic two-period general competitive equilibrium model introduced the canonical theoretical setting for the study of market behavior under uncertainty. The types of randomness described by Arrow's formalization are those factors external to human influence, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, and floods, that affect production capabilities or consumer tastes. In one bold stroke, Arrow (1953) and Debreu (1959), with the introduction of a complete set of contingent commodity markets, reinterpret the static Arrow and Debreu (1954) model of certainty in terms of a sequential model of uncertainty. This reinterpretation allowed their results about existence and Pareto optimality of static competitive equilibria to carry over completely to a dynamic and uncertain world. Arrow's (1953) model also provided what has become the standard role for securities, namely hedging against exogenous risks by shifting income across exogenous states. As Duffle (1991) noted, Arrow (1953) and Arrow and Debreu (1954) provided financial economists with benchmarks for market behavior that had been missing until then.
In Arrow's paradigm, uncertainty means not knowing which of several possible states will prevail. Agents are assumed to know all the conceivable states that can arise. These states are assumed to form a mutually exclusive and exhaustive description of the future. Arrow's conceptualization of states of nature is related to, but differs from Savage's (1954) definition of personal states of the world for subjective probabilities in statistical decision theory because the state space must be agreed on by everybody in Arrow's framework in order to have markets for either contingent commodities or securities.

Polymer light-emitting devices with a conducting polymer distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) are reported. Polymer DBRs were formed from alternate spin-coating of poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) doped with poly(styrenesulphonate) (PSS) as the low-index layer and a hole-transporting polyfluorene derivative as the high-index layer onto ITO deposited glass substrates. The polymer DBR with 5 periods showed reflectivity of 40% at the wavelength of 560nm. Onto this polymer DBR, a green-light-emitting polyfluorene was spin-coated to give the emissive layer and Ca/Al was deposited to form the cathode served another reflector. These LEDs operated successfully at low voltages and emitted light having a narrower spectrum (FWHM=47nm) than structures without the DBR (FWHM=102nm). The peak wavelengths varied corresponding to the thickness of the emissive layer, that is, the cavity length as expected from calculations. The luminance turn-on voltage of the LED with the polymer DBR is 2V, which is the same as LEDs without a DBR. The current was found to be limited by injection in the low field region and limited by space charge density at high fields. The current does not depend on the number of layers in the DBR in the low field region, and this implies that there are no effective energy barriers in the polymer DBR.

Cubic SiC thin films have been grown by supersonic jet epitaxy of single molecular precursors on Si(100), Si(111) and Separation by IMplanted OXygen (SIMOX) silicon on insulator (SOI) substrates at temperatures in the range 780 - 1000 °C. Real-time, in situ optical reflectivity was used to monitor the film growth. Films were characterized by ellipsometry, x-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Monocrystalline, crack-free epitaxial cubic SiC thin films were successfully grown at 830 °C on carbonized Si(111) substrates using supersonic molecular jets of dimethylisopropylsilane, (CH3)2CHSiH(CH3)2, and diethylmethylsilane, (CH3CH2)2SiHCH3. Highly oriented cubic SiC thin films in the [100] direction were obtained on SIMOX(100) at 900 °C with dimethylisopropylsilane and on Si(100) at 1000 °C with diethylmethylsilane. A carbonized Si(100) surface was found to enhance SiC deposition from diethylmethylsilane at a growth temperature of 950 °C.

GaN was grown by supersonic jet epitaxy(SSJE), seeding triethylgallium in helium carrier gas. Activated nitrogen was supplied by a microwave plasma source. Single crystalline GaN films were deposited on the Si-face 6H-SiC and the c-plane sapphire substrates at 600–670°C. A cubic SiC buffer layer was grown onSi(111) at 800°C by SSJE using dichlorosilane, acetylene, and a high quality GaN crystal was grown on this template at 630°C. The materials high quality was proved by hard rectifying characteristics of a diode with an N-GaN/β-SiC/P-Si(111) structure.
