YABULU, Qld (yă-boo-loo), a western Townsville suburb (map 5) in the City of thuringowa.
YACKANDANDAH, Vic. (yak-ăn-dan-dă), 36 19S 146 50E (map 17), a town (pop. 473) and shire (pop. 3989) in the north-east of the State. The name is probably derived from Yaggundoona. In the local (Ngarigo?) Aboriginal language Yaggun was the name of the area and doon meant ‘hill’. The town of Yackandandah, a former mining centre, is now largely a tourist resort. The surrounding district is given to dairying, grazing and general agriculture. Other centres and localities in Yackandandah Shire are Allans Flat, Dederang, Gundowering, Kergunyah, Kiewa and tangambalanga. Part of Sandy Creek is also within the shire.

YALGORUP NATIONAL PARK, WA (yal-gŏ-rup), a reserve (11 740 ha) to the south-west of pinjarra (map 8) featuring woodlands and wetlands. The name is probably from the local Nyungar Aboriginal language.
