Introduction
In order to increase the value of its services and activities, the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia (AQuAS) has incorporated in its strategic plan the commitment to improve the processes, quality and people, while ensuring transparency, independence, rigor and efficiency following the guidelines of the European Foundation for Quality Management. We aim to present the standardization processes to improve the efficiency in elaborating health technology assessment (HTA) reports at AQuAS.
MethodsProcess standardization has been developed in seven stages: (i) definition of scope, objectives and creation of working groups; (ii) mapping and analysis of all ongoing processes to determine whether they needed improvement or were already optimal; (iii) creation of new processes by evaluating the inclusion of automatic tools and their possible digitization; (iv) creation of the process map; (v) communication to the team for its implementation after training; (vi) dissemination on corporate website; (vii) monitoring and evaluation of their impact.
ResultsThe creation of AQuAS’ HTA report development process map has involved 14 people over the past two years. After an initial two-day workshop, the team was organized in working groups of two to three people, with regular monitoring and the creation of a specific knowledge management unit led by the AQuAS’ evaluation manager. The process map was configured based on three axes. The strategic axis contains legal frameworks, ethical principles, good practices and methodological frameworks (29 specific for HTA reports). The key axis presents in an integrated way the process and methodology followed from the request of the HTA report to the final product’s dissemination. The support axis includes, among other, the management of 31 requests, information specialist processes (37 searches), training (51 courses) and 6 internal procedures with their corresponding 26 templates and 27 tools.
ConclusionsWith a process reengineering approach, HTA reporting has become more efficient. We believe this approach can help other agencies improve their internal processes and subsequently improve team and customer satisfaction.

Over the last years, academic literature has made significant progress on the development of key concepts, identifying circular product typologies, developing assessment methods, and exploring the synergies with manufacturing trends such as digitalisation or environmental management. Nevertheless, less attention has been paid on describing process model changes necessary for the implementation of circular product development. For this reason, this paper presents the circular Sustainable Product Development (cSPD) morphological field, aimed at providing implementation guidance to business and industry. It describes possible reconfigurations of the Sustainable Product Development (SPD) process model to further integrate circularity R-strategies, design scopes, design guidelines, inter- and intra-organisational actors and criteria for evaluation. With this framework, we intend to identify the most defining parameters in the process model and assign them a discrete number of categorical values so that different combinations explain the generation of prevalent circular product typologies in the manufacturing of durable goods.

The Large and Small Magellanic Cloud (LMC and SMC) are the most luminous dwarf galaxy satellites of the Milky Way. Thanks to their close proximity (50-60 kpc), they provide one of the best opportunities to study in detail the kinematics of resolved stellar populations in an interacting pair of galaxies. Large photometric surveys like the ongoing Gaia mission and the near-infrared VISTA survey of the Magellanic Cloud system (VMC) will have a significant impact on our insight into the Magellanic system. We have combined the individual strengths of VMC and Gaia DR2 data to improve our understanding of the internal kinematics of the galaxies. In this study, we present results from our ongoing project dedicated to measure and analyse the proper motions of large samples of stars across the Magellanic Clouds, efficiently removing Milk Way foreground stars utilising distances derived with the StarHorse code.

Background: Diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease (PD) is relevant because it is a marker for evolution to dementia. However, the selection of suitable tests to evaluate separate cognitive domains in mild cognitive impairment related to PD remains an open question. The current work aims to investigate the neuroanatomical correlates of several visuospatial/visuoperceptual tests using the same sample and a multimodal MRI approach. Methods: The study included 36 PD patients and 20 healthy subjects matched for age, sex, and education. The visuospatial/visuoperceptual tests selected were: Pentagon Copying Test (PCT), Judgment of Line Orientation Test (JLOT), Visual Form Discrimination Test (VFDT), Facial Recognition Test (FRT), Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SMDT), and clock copying task (CLOX2). FreeSurfer was used to assess cortical thickness, and tract-based spatial statistics was used for fractional anisotropy analysis. Results: Lower performance in the PCT, JLOT, and SDMT was associated with extensive cortical thickness reductions in lateral parietal and temporal regions. VFDT and CLOX2 did not show this common pattern and correlated with more limited medial occipito-temporal and occipito-parietal regions. Performance in all visuospatial/visuoperceptual tests correlated with fractional anisotropy in the corpus callosum. Conclusions: Our findings show that JLOT, SDMT, and PCT, in addition to differentiating patients from controls, are suitable visuospatial/visuoperceptual tests to reflect cortical thinning in lateral temporo-parietal regions in PD patients. We did not observe the dissociation between dorsal and ventral streams that was expected according to the neuropsychological classification of visuospatial and visuoperceptual tests. Cygnus OB2 is a rich and relatively close (d~1.4 kpc) OB association in our Galaxy. It represents an ideal testbed for our theories about self-enrichment processes produced by pollution of the interstellar medium by successive generations of massive stars. Comerón & Pasquali (2012, A&A, 543, A101) found a correlation between the age of young stellar groups in Cygnus OB2 and their Galactic longitude. If is associated with a chemical composition gradient, it could support these self-enrichment processes.

Chronic dietary supplementation of proanthocyanidins corrects the mitochondrial dysfunction of brown adipose tissue caused by diet-induced obesity in Wistar rats

The present study aims to determine the effects of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) on brown adipose tissue (BAT) mitochondrial function in a state of obesity induced by diet. Wistar male rats were fed with a cafeteria diet (Cd) for 4 months; during the last 21 d, two groups were treated with doses of 25 and 50 mg GSPE/kg body weight. In the BAT, enzymatic activities of citrate synthase, cytochrome c oxidase (COX) and ATPase were determined and gene expression was analysed by real-time PCR. The mitochondrial function of BAT was determined in fresh mitochondria by high-resolution respirometry using both pyruvate and carnitine–palmitoyl-CoA as substrates. The results show that the Cd causes an important decrease in the gene expression of sirtuin 1, nuclear respiratory factor 1, isocitrate dehydrogenase 3γ and COX5α and, what is more telling, decreases the levels of mitochondrial respiration both with pyruvate and canitine–palmitoyl-CoA. Most of these parameters, which are indicative of mitochondrial dysfunction due to diet-induced obesity, are improved by chronic supplementation of GSPE. The beneficial effects caused by the administration of GSPE are exhibited as a protection against weight gain, in spite of the Cd the rats were fed. These data indicate that chronic consumption of a moderate dose of GSPE can correct an energy imbalance in a situation of diet-induced obesity, thereby improving the mitochondrial function and thermogenic capacity of the BAT.

The target adopted by world leaders of significantly reducing the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010 was not met but this stimulated a new suite of biodiversity targets for 2020 adopted by the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in October 2010. Indicators will be essential for monitoring progress towards these targets and the CBD will be defining a suite of relevant indicators, building on those developed for the 2010 target. Here we argue that explicitly linked sets of indicators offer a more useful framework than do individual indicators because the former are easier to understand, communicate and interpret to guide policy. A Response-Pressure-State-Benefit framework for structuring and linking indicators facilitates an understanding of the relationships between policy actions, anthropogenic threats, the status of biodiversity and the benefits that people derive from it. Such an approach is appropriate at global, regional, national and local scales but for many systems it is easier to demonstrate causal linkages and use them to aid decision making at national and local scales. We outline examples of linked indicator sets for humid tropical forests and marine fisheries as illustrations of the concept and conclude that much work remains to be done in developing both the indicators and the causal links between them.

Many of the advances of the last decade in this subject have been the result of large spectroscopic surveys of galaxies on the one hand, and multi-wavelength surveys of galaxies on the other. This talk highlights applications that exploit a combination of spectroscopic and multi-wavelength diagnostics. Most applications to date have been based on spatially integrated measurements of galaxies, but the introduction of wide-field integral field spectrometers promises to extend ths approach to spatially-resolved analyses of galaxies.

Background
There have been conflicting reports on whether the length polymorphism in the promoter of the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) moderates the antidepressant effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). We hypothesised that the pharmacogenetic effect of 5-HTTLPR is modulated by gender, age and other variants in the serotonin transporter gene.
AimsTo test the hypothesis that the 5-HTTLPR differently influences response to escitalopram (an SSRI) compared with nortriptyline (a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor).
MethodThe 5-HTTLPR and 13 additional markers across the serotonin transporter gene were genotyped in 795 adults with moderate-to-severe depression treated with escitalopram or nortriptyline in the Genome Based Therapeutic Drugs for Depression (GENDEP) project.
ResultsThe 5-HTTLPR moderated the response to escitalopram, with long-allele carriers improving more than short-allele homozygotes. A significant three-way interaction between 5-HTTLPR, drug and gender indicated that the effect was concentrated in males treated with escitalopram. The single-nucleotide polymorphism rs2020933 also influenced outcome.
ConclusionsThe effect of 5-HTTLPR on antidepressant response is SSRI specific conditional on gender and modulated by another polymorphism at the 5' end of the serotonin transporter gene.
Effect of constitutive laws for two-dimensional membranes on flow-induced capsule deformation

Three constitutive laws (Skalak et al.'s law extended to area-compressible interfaces, Hooke's law and the Mooney–Rivlin law) commonly used to describe the mechanics of thin membranes are presented and compared. A small-deformation analysis of the tension–deformation relation for uniaxial extension and for isotropic dilatation allows us to establish a correspondence between the individual material parameters of the laws. A large-deformation analysis indicates that the Mooney–Rivlin law is strain softening, whereas the Skalak et al. law is strain hardening for any value of the membrane dilatation modulus. The large deformation of a capsule suspended in hyperbolic pure straining flow is then computed for several membrane constitutive laws. A capsule with a Mooney–Rivlin membrane bursts through the process of continuous elongation, whereas a capsule with a Skalak et al. membrane always reaches a steady state in the range of parameters considered. The small-deformation analysis of a spherical capsule embedded in a linear shear flow is modified to account for the effect of the membrane dilatation modulus.
